Is it possible to wire up my strat like this? Being the only guitarist in the band, I sound really thin sometimes. by orangetubeheadin Guitar

[–]PlayGtr990 0 points1 point ago

I have my strat wired normally except for the fact I can blend my bridge pick-up in with my 2nd tone knob. Works pretty good to thicken up the tone.

r/guitar, can you tell me why GuitarCenter is so bad? by yearofthesilkwormin Guitar

[–]PlayGtr990 14 points15 points ago

Guitar Center gets a lot of hate because they are the Wal-Mart of music stores. Between Guitar Center and Sam Ash have put hundreds of independent music stores out of business. Not to mention you have to deal with all the bullshit that comes with a corporation.

Best pizza in town? by ss32in Wilmington

[–]PlayGtr990 1 point2 points ago

This. Michelangelo's, Elizabeth's, and Brooklyn Pizza all have very similar NY style pizza. Not a fan of Brixx, I can't believe that they call that pizza. Slice of Life also blows but where else are you going to eat when you're wasted at 2:30 in the morning? Oh wait... Vito's at the beach?

String trees are for keeping your strings from flying out of the nut when you do bends.

What Hollow or SemiHollow guitar should I look at? by tacoman81645in Guitar

[–]PlayGtr990 2 points3 points ago

I second this opinion. I work in a used guitar shop and we get them all the time. They usually go for 300-400 depending on the model. They play and sound exceptional for the money. Good luck on your search!

Bought a guitar at an antique store. Don't know what I have... by john_ragein Guitar

[–]PlayGtr990 5 points6 points ago

The Custom Kraft brand was made by Harmony for sometime and then later on by Valco. They had many different name brands they put on these guitars and distributed them in retail stores throughout the U.S. (Kay, Silvertone, Valco, Harmony, Custom Kraft, etc.) They were inexpensive student guitars back in those days and so aren't worth very much now. I wasn't able to find this exact model but I have seen a Kay with very similar stylings sell for around $200. If it works you got a great deal for $20.

When I was a kid, when I was a little boy, I always wanted to be a dinosaur, I wanted to be a Tyrannosaurus Rex more than anything in the world, I made my arms short and I roamed the back yard, I chased the neighborhood cats, I growled and I roared, everybody knew me and was afraid of me, and one day my dad said "Bobby you are 17, it's time to throw childish things aside" and I said "OK Pop", but he didn't really say that he said that "Stop being a fucking dinosaur and get a job".

My Gibson SG '61 Reissue...in 2 pieces by JewBear3in Guitar

You can get this fixed. It will cost you a couple of hundred bucks but a good luthier can make it play like new. Sorry for the loss.

MIM Stratocaster- Upgrade or Replace? by rushphanin Guitar

[–]PlayGtr990 0 points1 point ago

Replace! EndlessOcean is right. The bodies on those guitars suck and you can build a really nice strat for much less than an American STD costs. Some eBay sellers make good stuff but beware. I have a Warmoth Strat with a Highway One Body I built for about $700 and it kicks ass. There is not much to it, you can assemble a strat with a phillips head and a soldering iron. Good luck with whatever you decide!

Watched Pawn Stars on Tivo today, and some guy brought in Mary Fords 1961 Les Paul SG Custom.. by Fratmin Guitar

[–]PlayGtr990 2 points3 points ago

I agree with tibbon, I work in a used guitar shop and have seen my fair share of vintage instruments. During the 70s the quality of Fender and Gibson guitars went way down. The 3-bolt neck is just one of the problems. That being said, I have played some exceptional instruments from that era. The quality control just wasn't there during that era.
