I basically did this this past summer. I was working about 6 hours a day, but during the rest of the time, I read a lot (I finished Infinite Jest in 3 weeks), played cards by myself (this can be a lot more fun than it sounds), cooked more often, and went walking fairly frequently. I definitely didn't mind it at all.

Raincoats work absolutely as well as umbrellas for keeping you dry. They don't take up all of the sidewalk to keep one single person dry, nor are they constantly held at neck level so I constantly get stabbed by the little pointy thing. People seem to really hate the rain, but I think it has nothing to do with getting wet. Rather, it is the little shadow of gloom and loneliness generated by the umbrella that is the cause. Additionally, umbrellas look fucking stupid.
