TROPHY CASE

  • Three-Year Club

2X, after a lot of downfall recently, I went shopping by myself and came back with this outfit. This is the first time I've smiled and felt pretty in months. Just wanted to share with you girls. by Thisisnotlizin TwoXChromosomes

You wear that dress very nicely, but something tells me you're hiding the prettiest part of the photo ~ the smile.

I am so angry. This is why I never visit my Dad... by englishgirlin TwoXChromosomes

[–]OliveDiPace 4 points5 points ago

Amen. Being part of the political community is all fair game after 18, but somehow a young voice is always misguided and not worth addressing the merits. The value is the same but we're still belittled. Sigh.

I'm regretting my abortion and could use some support. by throwawaymistake11in TwoXChromosomes

... and what is the "lesson" exactly? That women are forced by nature to make life decisions for themselves, others, and those we bring into existence? That choice is not so b&w for the majority of pregnancies, and I don't think anyone is warranted to make that absolute of a judgment call over the internet. There's no right or wrong here, just a memorable, biological crossroad for the OP that is victimless. No harm, no foul.

Dad with a young daughter question by gaoshanin TwoXChromosomes

[–]OliveDiPace 2 points3 points ago

Middle easterner here who was your daughter 20 years ago. Here's what you need to know about female hair care:

See, shaving makes hair grow thinner and waxing makes it grow thinner. Thus, in the long-term, it is better to wax hair. However, for a lot of ethnic girls, hair thins and lightens naturally as you grow up. If leg and arm hair is the main problem, then teach her to shave. Get shaving gel and SINGLE blade disposable razors for her. For the toes, I suggest teaching her to wax them off since I doubt she will ever want to have hair there. Shaving is much more manageable everyday for a young girl as opposed to waxing large areas like arms and legs. Plus, you don't know if her hair will thin out. Maybe when she gets older she will want to consider waxing? For the eyebrows, take her to a solon and have them waxed. They can clean them up for about $10-12.

LASTLY, I just want to add you are an awesome dad for addressing this. I grew up in a predominantly Polish/Irish neighborhood, while having a unibrow, arm-hair, leg hair, a mustache, and hair on my toes. I was made fun of SO MUCH for this, but my parents were conservative and forbid me from shaving/waxing, etc. By 11 years old, I had my moment of rebellion by shaving almost everything off. From then on, I had to teach myself everything just to keep my self-esteem up. You are actively doing this for your daughter. God bless fathers like you.

The Art Of Manliness Website has a FAQ on "Should I Go To Law School". Is this a pretty accurate depiction? by ribs_all_nightin law

[–]OliveDiPace 6 points7 points ago

Great article because it highlights the reasons to and not to go to law school. I'm one of those "different people" who thinks she made the right choice, but oddly enough I tell every prospective student to seriously reconsider. I suppose I'll just refer them to this article now.

Reddit, what is the best piece of advice you know? by seslain AskReddit

[–]OliveDiPace 0 points1 point ago

Dating advice from grandma when I was a 15 year old girl: "Date only the type of men you would be proud to call your son."

I'm sure the reverse applies equally well to men. Oddly enough, grandma's Oedipus-like advice saved me from a lot of bad dates, bad men, and bad heartbreak.

I could care less what they spend that money on, as long as they took it away from the UCD police fund.

Shostakovich's 5th Symphony - Finale. I'm a violinist and every time I hear or play this piece I get goosebumps from start to finish. It's truly a moving piece of art.

Yes yes, we have to care about human beings that don't even exist yet, but to hell with the rights of American women who do exist. Sigh.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but is this not spoliation, for which several procedural remedies are available? And wouldn't deterring misconduct and preserving the legitimacy of the justice system be a benefit of finding spoliation?

edit: Then again, I'm just a measly law student - what do I know?

And this is supposed to be surprising? Sarcastic comments aside, I wish the legal community as a whole recognized this as a problem, and a big problem at that. After all, the majority of the American legal system is wealthy, white man-made. The more law evolves and changes, the better it becomes. By marginalizing socio-eonomic classes (which may tie to culture and race), law schools are doing society a huge disservice.

I forget the name of the case, but SCOTUS will be deciding on whether or not the exchange of e-mails, on a company server, between an employee and his lawyer are protected by attorney-client privilege.

My Civ Pro II professor and students were making bets on what SCOTUS will say, and what the "spread will be." I went with 6-3 "no" with a Scalia dissent.
