Here is a VERY detailed description of why you most likely got a second squawk code: http://www.vansairforce.com/community/showthread.php?t=85466

The RV-10 tail feathers are done! On to the tail cone... by NovaBanditin homebuilt

[–]NovaBandit[S] 0 points1 point ago

Thanks! Also made the next step of ordering the wing kit, as the tail cone is the last component of the RV10 empannage kit. Big week.

Ride with a fighter pilot in his RV-8 some fun was had. by ACGAUMin aviation

The RV8 doesn't need any special ratings, except possibly tail wheel. It's just a 140-200 HP kit plane from Van's Aircraft.

There wasn't. It was named the Hughes H-4 Hurcules. It was named the "Spruce Goose" by it's detractors.

You can subscribe to the blog for updates, and now that I know about /r/homebuilt, I'll post there when I complete some of the bigger steps.

Also, for more information than you will ever need, check out vansairforce.com and the Matronics RV10 email list.

I'm pretty good at figuring out how to do things...

But these plane kits are built in a way that if you can pay attention to the instruction manual, pretty much anyone that can operate a screw driver can build one. It just takes attention to detail and patience.

I'm planning on spending at least $150,000.

The rough breakdown is:

$50,000 in the engine $50,000 in the hull (the plane itself) $50,000 in avionics

Of course each section can be higher or lower... depending on if the motor is new or not, whether or not the panel is glass IFR or steam guages, and so on.

Also there are the little things that add up quickly, like tools, interior finishing, paint.

I mentioned on my blog that I too looked at the Velocity very closely before finally settling on the 10. There are a lot of reasons for my decision, but the big ones were short field performance, grass field capability, and the space and view of the cabin.

The 10 ended up being the most economical "take 4 adults somewhere far and fast" plane.

Very cool! Do you have a build log online I could check out?

I just started on Valentines day this year with the tail kit. And because it isn't enough work to just build a plane, I'm going to ATTEMPT to capture the entire build as a time lapse video.

Any thoughts on buying a plane? by deadlyfalcon89in flying

[–]NovaBandit 0 points1 point ago

I don't think you should rule out a homebuilt just because it's a homebuilt. Just check over the documentation and get a thorough inspection just like any aircraft purchase.

Personally, I love RVs. I just started building an RV10.

Do any of you have any tips for paying down a 30-year mortgage faster? by partofaplan2in Frugal

[–]NovaBandit 0 points1 point ago

We just switched to bi weekly payments. It is going to save us about 6 years on our mortgage, with only one extra payment per year.

Plus my wife and I both get paid bi-weekly, so it's much easier to budget.
