TROPHY CASE

Google wants to make sci-fi a reality with “Solve for X,” a conference for radical tech ideas by louiebaurin geek

[–]NitsujTPU 4 points5 points ago

It's not the same thing at all. If Google is attempting to bring people together to work on problems, then that's quite different from bringing a bunch of notable people out to talk about whatever they'd like.

Is the 12.04 alpha seriously more stable than 11.10? Or is that just an exaggeration? by dieyoubastardsin Ubuntu

I might do that. Thanks for the heads-up.

Hot in all of the above.

[–]NitsujTPU 7 points8 points ago

It's not a stability issue, but it's got issues.

The stock version of Unity doesn't support 3 monitors. The current version of Gnome has a problem where I can't drag things onto the third monitor correctly. The hovering popup shows up on the left-most monitor rather than the current monitor.

Finally having it so that my headphones turn off my desktop speakers when I plug them in is nice, though.

Nah, ammo really is quite pricey. The brass itself is nontrivially expensive.

I totally agree, but dropping weight isn't necessary for her.

I'm just going to throw it out there: If she's not in college with you, and you're not that darn serious, it's a better move anyway.

Well, awesome. I want to be about 50 lbs lighter.. it seems like one of the things that would really improve my life.

That, or even buying more than one pair of underwear!

Honestly, you look good in both pics. You have nothing to worry about as far as weight is concerned, and would better focus your ambitions elsewhere.

You are not helping the case of the original argument that:

1) An old Democratic slogan is somehow an act of genius when parroted back by a Ron Paul supporter.

2) That the pro-choice slant of the slogan, as a originally used, somehow extends well to Ron Paul's campaign, given that he's pro-life.

No candidates are going up there saying, "I really really like wars."

He's pro life. I was editing the post to include that when I got a phone call. As for my stance on abortion, I'm not sure where you got anything about my stance on abortion from that post.

From your post I'm not sure that you realize that. Or, perhaps you're stating that the pro-life argument extends to an anti-war one. Frankly, though, Dr. Paul's stance is non-interventionist, not entirely anti-war, so, this image doesn't state his stance on war well, either.

This is not genius. It's recycled. People have been saying this for years. It's an interesting, intelligent observation the first time that someone says it, but it is not genius when someone repeats it.

Besides, if someone were to break down the pro-life argument and the pro-choice argument, stances that allow for wars but not abortion arise which are perfectly intelligent.

It's also not particularly great poster for Ron Paul since he's pro-life: http://www.ronpaul.com/on-the-issues/abortion/

Edit: I'm not going to argue the fine points of why repeating an old Democratic slam is neither innovative, nor particularly intelligent. Nor am I going to argue why this picture doesn't help Ron Paul's case much (hint, the fact that he's pro-life means that half of the two negative points on the picture (from a Democrat's perspective) apply to him).

Anyone who drives stick can relate by wilshire155in AdviceAnimals

Eh, some hills in truly steep places (San Francisco, WV) can still be stressful in cars without much low-end torque. I drive stick very well, and find driving in these places to be stressful. That people parallel park on hills in SF is terrifying.

It's going to be worse than pee on your leg if you step on a Man-Of-War. Their sting can be lethal to humans.

I'm sorry that you failed to understand the context of what I was saying. I'm a PhD candidate, and I wrestled, so I understand what you're saying.

Let me clarify.

What I said: People vote for the popular kids, not necessarily the competent.

What you said: Popular kids can be competent, too.

The core meaning of what I said: People will vote for the popular kids, regardless of competence.

The problem with what you said: Popularity doesn't imply competency.

The implication: It is possible for an incompetent person to obtain a leadership role, such as President, because followers follow the popular kids regardless of their competency.

The implication that you probably take issue with, but unsuccessfully argued against: This image encourages such behavior among Ron Paul supporters, and, indeed, those who have upvoted this image are exactly the sorts of followers who would blindly follow anybody, given a certain degree of popularity (or, in this case, popularity among their subculture), regardless of competence.

(Edit: Added clarity.)

It's unfortunate that politics is often reduced to a bunch of followers following the jocks. Everyone should think like you do.

[–]NitsujTPU 0 points1 point ago

Summary of what I've said: This guy doesn't exactly tell you how to be a man, or seem to have a point either. If he does, then he's not good at conveying it.

(A good test of this. 10 of you PM me what you think the article says. If most of you agree, then he has a point.)

A New Masculinity (long, but worth it) by gmolinariin malelifestyle

[–]NitsujTPU -2 points-1 points ago*

If he had a point, he'd be able to boil it down when he introduces his essay, then expand on this point later in it. This is how scientific papers are written.

(Edit: Vote me down. The article is long, rambling, defies summary, leans on innuendo, unestablished factoids, and anecdotes, and seeks to "redefine masculinity," something that a whiny bunch of 2012 hipsters seeking self-validation want to do, because they never learned how to be men.)
