Pics or it didn't happen!

Please?

I know that the cameras were shut down a long time ago. But come on. Aren't you even a little bit tempted to just aim that camera back towards the solar system and take the most mindboggling snapshot ever?

That must also be so much fun...

Assuming that the signal sent to Voyager 1 travels at the speed of light, Voyager 1 is still some 15-16.5 light hours away. So you'll send your string of commands, and 30 hours and spare change later, you'll know whether or not Voyager 1 received and executed that command.

Soldiers have the option of rotating out of a war zone. Civilians don't quite have the same luxury.

  • Decide that this is infact your problem, and not somebody else's problem.
  • Yell at the nearest person "You call 911".
  • Administer CPR until a professional takes over.

The real magic is in the two first points. Taking responsibility becomes increasingly more difficult as the number of "other people who should do something" increases.
And therein lies the trick of Point 2. Yelling out "Someone call 911!" in general gives people the option to think "Someone probably will." whilst yelling to someone specific "You call 911!" makes that person inherently responsible, and kind of a dick if they don't. They can still opt out, but it becomes an active decision to actually don't do something they are told to do, rather than a non-decision of not actively doing what someone in general was asked to do.

It's still unbelievable to me that our country used to function this way.

Imagine how weird all this homophobic bullshit will look in 40 years time.

The President of the United States of America recently said "Hey, let's treat all people equally!" and there was controversy. And all this over where people like to put their genitals to keep them warm and comfortable.

They weren't half good either. Just somewhere in the middle.

He also took the entrance exam for the single most prestigious art academy in Austria, and one of the most prestigious academies in Europe at the time, rather than to aim somewhere lower. He was, if I recall correctly, told that he would be more suited for architecture rather than art, but having dropped out of school at a young age, he would never qualify for such an academy.

If Hitler hadn't been a megalomaniac and applied to whatever passed as the Brown U of Austrian art academies, the world would probably have been a lot different. Of course, "If Hitler hadn't been a megalomaniac" is rather tall order for a prerequisite.

Candice Shwager, meet Wrath of the Internet.
Wrath of the Internet, do your thing.

Just a few points worth mentioning here:

  1. People got the name wrong. It's Shwager and not Shwagger. So the internet is currently branding Candice Shwagger as a litigious shrewish harpy, while Canidce Shwager still turns up on google as a saintly lawyer fighting for whatever she's fighting for.

  2. I believe that this will turn into a perfect example of the Streisand effect.

My phone has two sliders. One for snooze, one to turn the alarm of. They work exactly the same, only on opposite sides of the screen.
Tired me will randomly flail at the screen until the loud noises go away, one way or the other.

This is the most severe design flaw on Android.

Just sold 24 games to Gamestop for 360€, normally worth 60€. The employee was almost crying. by tahikoin gaming

[–]Niqulaz 2 points3 points ago

Fortunately, the guys on my local Gamestop are decent people who only go through the motions when they're dealing with an oblivious customer, or when there's a rumour of corporate "Mystery customers" going around. The rest of the time, they spend doing good, job, i.e. keeping gamers and geeks happy and shooting shit with their customers.

Usual transaction:

"Hi. I'd like a copy of Alan Wake, no sales pitch, no game protection."
"That'd be too much money. Enjoy your day."

Last time I was in there:

"Hi. Mass Effect 3, fancy bells-and-whistle edition. Hold the bullshit."
"Would you like game protection with that?"
"My friend, you are insulting me!"
"By the way, would you like to pre-order Diablo III?"
"Aaah. You're being checked up on these days, aren't you?"
"Do you have a Powerup card, sir?"
"They are holding your girlfriend at gunpoint in the back, aren't they? No need to say anything, just glance nervously to the left for yes, nervously to the right for no."
"That will be 49.99!"

The traditional way for some drinks, is through a straw. You light the drink, you stick the straw in, and you suck it like D-X told you to.

One of the many "First rules" any bartender should be taught: If someone asks for anything with "Flaming" or "Burning" in the name, ask the guest if he knows what the hell he's doing.

"I'd like four burning B-52s please."
"Tell me how you're supposed to drink one."
"You shot it."
"Denied. Next!"

That isn't from a lacking comprehension of the subject matter, but rather from a legitimate diagnosis for a minor mental deficiency (fuck political correctness... a part of your brain doesn't work like it's supposed to).
Which is again perfectly fine. There's a consistent scientific backing and a diagnosis that says "This man/woman/highly intelligent dolphin cannot math because numbers doesn't make sense."

Can someone explain to me why Gerrard & Lampard don't work well together? by USDA65in soccer

[–]Niqulaz 3 points4 points ago

Essentially, if you play with Gerrard and Lampard you WILL get overrun in midfield. This does not mean that they are BAD players, they just fit much better into either narrow formations like a 4-1-2-1-2, or into one striker formations with them sitting directly behind the striker like in a 4-2-3-1.

To see a perfect example of this, see Bolton - Liverpool, where Gerrard and Adam were deployed in central midfield, which gave Bolton several nasty chances.

With both Johnson and Enrique wandering up their respective sides, and Gerrard and Adam both committing to attacks as well, Bolton had an easy time strolling down the middle of the field. A quick counter, three players down the middle of the field had them in an ideal 3-on-2 against Agger and Skrtel, with the rest of the Liverpool team dashing madly towards home goal, completely out of balance.

[–]Niqulaz 1 point2 points ago

I remember my coach telling us something to the effect of the ideal penalty being stuck as close to the post as possible, and about a meter high.

Feeling that this was bloody ridiculous, I kept looking for the lower left corner on my run-up, and then shot the ball dead straight. 60% of the time it worked all of the time. Sometimes, a befuddled keeper who had failed to dive would find the ball coming straight at him, and happily gather it up. Most of the time, a diving keeper would be full-stretched in one of the corners (more often than not the one I'd been looking at) by the time the ball found the back of the net.

I still put on a couple of boots and kick a football around ever so often. If I was struck by lightning during a match, the headlines would read "Football player struck by lightning". I do not however get paid for my ball-kicking, so I would not call myself a "Professional football player".

When I take of my boots, I'm not a football player. When I put my camera back in the bag, I'm no longer a photographer.
