I'm thinking about online dating. Any advice? by DontUseThrowawaysin AskReddit

[–]NeitherSeenNorHeard 0 points1 point ago

Others have said it, but I'll reiterate -- Don't have super high expectations going in. If you go in thinking that you have to meet "the one", you may end up disappointed. I met a number of cool guys on okcupid, one of whom I dated for the better part of a year, but it takes a while. And you will probably meet a lot of cool girls that you just...aren't THAT attracted to, or you just don't see yourself dating seriously. I had a lot of first dates, very few second dates...

If I'm feeling lonely, I stay away from online dating because I get depressed that I'm not meeting theright people. But if I just feel like getting out, having a beer and conversation, meeting new people, it can be quite fun.

Attended my sister's graduation and heard terrible speakers. What's the best/worst speech you've ever heard given? by PERSON_PLACEin AskReddit

I graduated from my Master's program last year, and our student speaker awkwardly broke into an opera song. It was...odd.

I've heard good things about this place, and it is certainly convenient!

There is a really pretty flower called a ranunculus that comes in a lovely creamy white shade with green tones. I always like greens against dark purples, so I think that could look quite nice!

Pepper spray victims face up to 11 years in prison for protesting US Bank's inappropriate relationship with UC Davis by killer_sea_ponyin politics

Some light reading for the occasional asshole. The independent reports on the pepper spraying incident have been released, and they cite the school administration and the police as being at fault. The gist of it is that the police overreacted, and were not even authorized to be using that pepper spray.

Spot on! Small goals, not overwhelming. Good feelings.

I also have trouble with the "get motivated thing". Part of it is that I don't like to exercise in front of people (or in general), and my close friends that I would be willing to run with are WAY more in shape than I am -- I definitely couldn't keep up.

That said. I just started doing the couch 2 5k program (just a couple weeks in) -- A running regimen for those of us who are starting from 0. I go run at a park in a neighborhood where I don't know anyone, I put pandora on, and I use a c25k app (c25k lite) that tells me when I should be running and when I should be walking.

I'm not sure why I find this more doable than any other time i've tried to exercise regularly-- maybe it's because in my head I am saying "my phone told me to walk right now...so you people can't judge me!" -- but I've found it much easier to keep up with.

So I guess what worked for me is: * finding a location to be anonymous * using a structured exercise regimen and having an app for it * finding a regimen that is has reasonable expectations for my abilities

It just doesn't seem quite as daunting anymore. I'm not sure if this will work for you, but best of luck!

3 Survivors that never met until 2006 by Droiin pics

Sure, I agree. All I'm saying is that I don't think the commenter meant it as literally as you took it. Like, these things are taught to us as history, but for some people, that "history" is part of their life story. I think the commenter was just marveling at that fact.

I think s/he is just saying that WWII in many ways has been sensationalized in movies, etc., and that most of my generation's experience with WWII is through those dramatized portrayals. I think it's probably hard to imagine the atrocities that these people actually dealt with in RL when many of us (myself included) have led quite easy and privileged lives.

I doubt the poster actually meant that s/he couldn't do the math...

True story: My grandfather worked in management at Xerox/PARC at the time. They had some stuff going on with the PC, and my grandfather did not really want to show Steve Jobs all of it, but was told to do so by his boss... So it goes.

Looking for a trench that won't swallow me up by NeitherSeenNorHeardin fashion

My roommate bought this W118 by Walter Baker trench on ebay, and it fits her so well. It's a slimmer cut, and the buttons are set a little closer than some of the other options, which makes it look smaller, I think. I wish there were more like this!

Ladies have you really been planning your wedding since you we're 12? by ghostofanimusin AskReddit

[–]NeitherSeenNorHeard 0 points1 point ago

I remember in middle school, my best friend was OBSESSED with planning her future wedding. She would buy tons of those wedding magazines, and clip out pictures and color themes, and flower arrangements and of course, the dresses. I was into it for a little bit, too, and then I realized that I was scared of boys so I kinda just quit. Also, jesus that shit is expensive!

Anyone have experience with BB Cream? by jennythebearin beauty

[–]NeitherSeenNorHeard 0 points1 point ago

I use the Dr. Jart BB cream from Sephora. I like it a lot, but for me, it isn't the miracle product that some claim it to be. I use a little bit as a primer, then I top it with my tinted moisturizer (currently I use Laura Mercier oil free).

The BB cream definitely keeps my skin soft, and acts as a nice primer, but I can't use it by itself as a 1 step thing.

I have been interested in trying the Smashbox and/or Dior brands to see if those work better for me.

Yes, I like the lighter tan of the Merona jacket -- I will have to go check that out! Although, sometimes Merona things are a bit boxy on me. Can't beat the price, though...
