It is saying that border guards have a very specific job that is detailed to catch people with malicious intent at the border. It may seem to be an inconvenience to the average person... but hey, so is airport security and so on.

TSA doesn't make you spread your cheeks while you are in line at the bank... and border guards do not come to your house, place of business, or a mall for that matter, and detain you without reason.

I will admit that when being questioned by the first guard, I was leaning towards OP(edit in a sense of dick cops rather than police state). The second guard was very polite and overly patient with the now fuck head Canadian. He does not deserve an assault charge IMO, but with that said, he is a fucking idiot.

The bad side is it would be abused heavily by straight/gays alike.

See welfare.

I see the argument for gay marriage, and could give no fucks either way...

But giving away benefits without any kind of legal obligation or commitment is a bad investment.
