That would make it sound as though he had drank 6 beers in an hour, which is potentially defamatory. Also, it means nothing to people who do not drink alcohol and is an incredibly roundabout way than saying 'this is the current allowed limit, and this is what his was'.

When reporting on people who have died with alcohol as a factor, the driving limit is included as a comparison factor for the public. If a report simply said "he had 500 miligrams of alcohol" nobody would have context around what that actually means.

That is your opinion, not fact. Hence why I cautioned against pre-judging either side. Both the prosecution and defence are presenting the fact they believe led to Makaza's death. One will be deemed as 'right' and one as 'wrong' at the end of it all. There will be no solid irrefutable way this verdict is realised.

What I was alluding to with Peter Ellis was that facts go so twisted and public opinion was taken on board so much there is potentially an innocent man in prison. So no, it should never be on trial in the court of public opinion.

At the moment the 'medical-legal' system is not on trial. Should Gwaze's case succeed, he may then have the option of filing his own case against the Crown/NZ Police.

The current proceedings are incredibly confusing and delicate. Remember that both sides will have witnesses backing their sides of the story - and remember you should not pass judgement on either until the case is finished.

Gwaze's doctors claim Makaza died of toxic shock, or the HIV in her lungs. Maureen-Anne Meates-Dennis, the pediatrician on duty that night (who says she has experience with 50 HIV children) denies this. So does the Crown's South African HIV expert Professor Lorna Marti, who claims to have never seen injuries like Makaza's in HIV sufferers.
