Camping in Big Sur: Unicorns? Please help! by everestdesignin MontereyBay

I hiked last Pine Ridge Trail last weekend in Pfieffer- beautiful, hot by mid-afternoon (70's). It was a bit busy as it is a popular trail to take to Skyes Hot Springs.

As far as maps: I haven't found any great maps. Apparently, you can order decent trails maps through the Las Padres National Forest website. I use this book: http://www.amazon.com/Day-Hikes-Around-Big-Sur/dp/1573420417

By the way, if you are going hiking this weekend I would visit Big Creek Reserve. Evidently it is open only one day a year (or something crazy like that). Check this out: bigcreek.ucnrs.org/open_house/index.html

Have fun!

I disagree, I have been to a small, but successful meetup in Salinas.

Anyone know where I could buy a mexican pancho in Salinas or Monterey? by sfc949in MontereyBay

[–]NIC0LE 1 point2 points ago

You could try the swap meet in Salinas. I believe it is on East Alisal.

Do you normally browse city council reports?

Obama to designate Fort Ord as a new national monument - MontereyHerald.com : by NIC0LEin MontereyBay

[–]NIC0LE[S] 0 points1 point ago

"But dozens of dilapidated old military barracks and other buildings, many contaminated with lead paint and asbestos, remain. They will be torn down when enough money from developer fees is raised, said Dave Potter, chairman of the Fort Ord Reuse Authority board."

Hope they raise money soon!

I think this is a good idea and I happen to like both places.

This place intrigues me more than it should. I have seen this place several times, but never went in. I have always got the impression it was an nonofficial "locals-only" type bar.

I have heard that historians claim that John Smith exaggerated (and even lied) about many of his exploits.

Not a very scholastic source:

You have come to the right place for wine- we are famous for our pinot noir! Carmel is famous for its fancy tasting rooms and wineries. For a list on the wine trail:

http://www.mtycounty.com/pgs-wine/car-valley-wine.html

But I prefer the River Road Wine Trail in South County. (In my opinion) these tend to be a little more customer service oriented and family operated- check out Pessagno, Pariaso, and Wrath.... yummy!
