Predictions for SWTOR in the future. (Friendly Discussion) by GrizzlyBeastin swtor

[–]Mishtal 2 points3 points ago

Swtor had the best leveling in any games hand down. I don't usually create alts but Swtor managed to get me to level 3 toons to 50 and a few more in the 30's. While i do wish that your choices mattered a bit more, the overall experience was stellar.

I played WoW for a looong time and did almost exclusively PVE stuff and assumed that I'd do the same with Swtor... quite honestly that didn't happen. I found the end game pve stuff very boring. (i cleared KP & EV in normal and hard more and almost finished the new raid before i walked out)

I found a lot more enjoyment in the pvp aspect of the game and got my main char to conqueror (rank 80) and one of my alts to Battlemaster so i did my share... Honestly, i can see Swtor survive as a niche for pvp players but to me the balance for certain classes is such shit that i ended up walking away.

My sub won't run out until July and unless i see some major class balancing done right, i won't even bother. I held up to 1.2 thinking they would bring enough out to keep the entertainment value up but they fucked up on so much shit (class balance for one..) that the game became more frustrating than fun.

I don't see D3 really make a dent in Swtor, different game for different crowds but GW2 might steal some people away... Swtor needs to get their act together now because things won't get better without Massive server merges and more ways to get people to play together.

Curt Schilling's 38 Studios Can't Pay Employees, Bounced A Check To The State by Dblueguyin gaming

For those of us who aren't up to date on this, can you clarify why the state decided to make a loan to a game studio and what the conditions were?

yea i get the launch issues... shit i've played MMO's for way too fucking long now and when any of those had launch issues, i understood... it's an mmo...

the thing with D3 is that its a single player game with the ability to do multiplayer. i don't understand why they didnt do a single player mode where that character would be locked in to SP mode and if i wanted a multiplayer char, i'd create a new one... hell this model forces me to play their game more...

If i was unemployed and able to try and play 16 hours a day, i wouldn't complain but when i have a 2 hour window to sit down and play and i'm kicked out of a single player game, it's pretty shitty...

now i understand that you like to suck blizzards balls and you like it when they are deep down your throat but bottom line people paid for a product they aren't able to use as advertised.

yea you're not alone... this shit is fucking retarded. I am looking forward to the cracked servers being released just so i can stop dealing with Blizzard's shit...

LPT: Buy good tickets when Ticketmaster won't allow you to leave one empty seat. by mechtoniain LifeProTips

[–]Mishtal 0 points1 point ago

i'll take a stab at the first two...

1: Researching and developing technology cost money. They had to come up with a way to create an email delivery system for their tickets and then when they rolled it out they had to recover the cost somehow. If you don't want to pay for, get mail, it's free.

2: the service charge that TM charges for is often partially paid back to the promoters as kick backs. The $5.75 fee you see in this example... chances are TM keeps $3 or $4 at most. While i agree that the customer is getting gouged, TM isn't the only one to blame for high service charges.

i worked for TM for almost 10 years and i haven't paid for tickets once and saw a shitload of AAA artists... maybe they just treated you like shit...

Here is what you do: take the cash out, put something else in that would make it look like there is something in the bag, go back out and put it back in the same spot.

If someone comes, picks it up and starts crying, you found who it belongs to.... Then give it back...

what i'm worried about is that if the budget is just $500k and half of it is thrown at voice actors, its a bit scary for the rest of the game.

Totally legit concert pricing by sbrbradin WTF

[–]Mishtal 39 points40 points ago*

well the service charge originally was a surcharge added onto tickets to cover the fees and make some profit for the ticketing company. So essentially you were paying a fee to cover the software used, the phone operator and the overall convenience of not actually driving to the venue and buying tickets in person... and this made sense...

Unfortunately over the years that service charge has morphed into other thing... While it is true that some of the service charge money goes into funding the costs of selling you a ticket (staff, software, servers... ect) it also became a very strong revenue stream and a way for ticketing companies to "lock in" certain venues or promoters... here is an example with fictitious numbers and fake company names:

Ticketlord wants to be the official provider of tickets for the Madison Cube Garden, so they make an offer: Instead of charging the usual $6.00 service charge and cover our fees and make some profit, we will now charge $10.00 and give $3.00 back to the Madison Cube Garden.

Suddenly, this venue signs an exclusive deal with the ticketing provider to ensure more revenue and it gladly allows the ticket provider to look like the jerk.

Promoter deals are the same, however in some cases (AAA Artists) the performer makes so much guaranteed money or a very very high percentage of the ticket price so this is the only way promoters can guarantee themselves a revenue stream.

i could go into a lot more details but that should give you a good idea for now.

Edit: a few typos...
