Of course! As of right now, 4 generous redditors have donated, totalling £35 - which is also matched by Breadpig, so double that!

Thanks for the support, and keep it up, everyone! :)

It's a limited edition canvas print, I'll have you know. Please don't offend it by calling it a 'poster'. :p

Oh! I'll see what I can do about a PayPal account. I'll keep reddit updated.

As for validation - well, we're covered on the BBC website, we'll be video blogging on the mountain for upload later, and we'll be tweeting live from the mountain!

It would indeed be disingenuous - that's why we're paying for all that ourselves! All the donations are being used exclusively to build and maintain the women's education centre. As for why we're bothering with the Kili climb at all, and not just building the centre with our own money, see my response here. We want to get YOU involved and caring about these issues as much as we do.

Good point. Education for women & girls has been shown to have far-reaching effects. This statistic is courtesy of The Girl Effect

"When a girl in the developing world receives seven or more years of education, she marries four years later and has 2.2 fewer children." (United Nations Population Fund, State of World Population 1990.)

See my reply to the above poster; this is a new charity we've set up and our running ourselves. We are most definitely not just in it for the 'fun' of climbing a mountain.

Thanks for the comment! This climb is actually to kick start a new charity we've founded ourselves, called Arohon (http://itstheclimb.co.uk) - yes, climbing a mountain may be the 'fun' part, but we're putting in the time both now and afterwards to oversee (with the help of family in Bangladesh) the building and maintenance of this education centre ourselves. And, this is just the first project, there'll be many more to come.

Our ethos is that if we want to see change happen (such as breaking down cultural barriers for women wanting an education in Bangladesh), then we should make that change ourselves; this is why we're doing this, rather than raising for an existing cause where we don't know where the money is going exactly.

Here, we'll be keeping everyone updated and closely following the building and running of the education centre that YOU helped build.

(Also, this isn't our day jobs, this is something we're running on the side, because we believe in it.)

Well, we addressed this in our very first video, albeit lightheartedly! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4WMr18Z0xo&t=3m35s

We just wanted to do something which is a crazy physical endeavour to kick things off with this new charitable project. We're obviously aware of the geographical inconsistencies here, but not only will we be doing other, completely different things to continue to fundraise in future (this is the first of many charitable projects under our 'Arohon' banner http://itstheclimb.co.uk), we will, at some point in future, no doubt support/kick off projects in Africa too.

This Kili climb is just kicking off our charitable project; a video game marathon may well be a future endeavour!

Portsmouth, actually. :) The accents are similar, though, weirdly.

That is excellent! Sounds like it was gruelling; massive, massive kudos to them, that is a brilliant cause.

I'm sorry you feel that way, but I can assure you, this is as genuine as it gets! I'd love to persuade you to watch our other videos so you can see how this project has been evolving since we first came up with it: http://www.youtube.com/user/itstheclimbUK#p/u or read our website: http://itstheclimb.co.uk

Well, we wanted to do something which is a crazy physical challenge to kick off our charitable project and raise awareness, and hopefully be able to raise a large sum of money.

All the 'administrative' costs such as plane tickets, the climb itself, etc etc, are all being payed for out of our own pockets. ALL donations (i.e. the whole 5000 pounds) is going directly towards building & running the education centre. We don't agree with the concept of seemingly raising money for charity when any of that money goes towards anything but the cause itself!

We realise the geographical inconsistencies, of course (and addressed this in our very, very first video blog right at the start: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4WMr18Z0xo&t=3m35s) - but, well, hopefully climbing a mountain is just to convince you of our dedication to the cause! This is something we really believe in.

Last, but DEFINITELY not least, BEST OF LUCK with raising the money for your volunteering, and I really, really hope you get to do it. That sounds so fantastic and worthwhile. I hope you keep us updated. Go you!

Ah, reddit. Nothing "rude or offensive", though, sorry; I did mean 'rude' in that very British way, too. i.e. nothing 'naughty'. Family-friendly only, I'm afraid!

Good question! The answer is, because this way, we're getting YOU involved.

As a new charitable project which we've founded ourselves (called Arohon), we're going to be closely following the whole process of setting up and maintaining the education centre. We want you to feel as involved as we do, and care about the issues as much as we do. Plus, you get to see what your money is doing! Hopefully, this will inspire you to keep giving to other great causes!

Finally, this is definitely just the first of many world-saving projects; we want to get the word out there about Arohon!

Hello, Mitu here - thanks for the comment, bringing attention to the effect of global warming on Kili is an excellent suggestion!

I have to guiltily admit, I hadn't heard of Greg Mortensen until I stumbled across Three Cups of Tea in an airport bookstore a few weeks ago; I'm currently reading it. A fantastic idea to try to get him involved, though!

Thanks so much for the support. :)

Yes! My younger sis and I founded Arohon - in fact, we're asking Reddit to help us fundraise at the moment! We're even climbing Kilimanjaro to convince you!

Hi Reddit! We're climbing Mt Kilimanjaro next week for our charity promoting education in Bangladesh. Will you help us? We made you a video, Reddit, and we'll make another from the summit! by MimiKin reddit.com
