Yes, female here, I've even run my own campaigns in the past. Plenty of comments here have already made it obvious that lots of girls do indeed play! :)

I can, however, kind of understand why the OP is anxious about telling girls that he plays; I'm almost guilty of being the same way with my non-geekily-disposed female friends when explaining what I've been up to! However, once you explain exactly what it is, and that it's a fun, inherently social past-time, they seem to understand. :)
