Reliable sites for gloves and other MT gear? by Peotin MuayThai

[–]MFChrisB 0 points1 point ago

I just ordered a pair of Boon 10oz from muaythai-fighting.com and had it in 5 business days. IIRC, I placed the order at 7am EST and had usable tracking information by 8pm EST that same day.

The gloves were in the original packaging, and there wasn't any noticeable dry-rotting (apparently a semi-common concern from gloves sitting in a damp warehouse for too long) or unusual signs of distress. So, all-in-all, I'd totally order from them again. Shipping isn't cheap from Thailand to the US, but that seems to be an issue from every retailer.

How do i increase my endurance? by newtokickboxingin MuayThai

[–]MFChrisB 2 points3 points ago

Upvoted, and I might add: If you don't have access to a level area to sprint, start doing interval training on a stationary bicycle.

Start with 10 minutes, alternating 30 seconds of 15-17mph and then 30 seconds 22-24mph. While you're on the 15-17mph cycle, focus on keeping your breathing deep and even. After a week or two passes, tack another 5 minutes on. Once you can do 20 minutes of 30/30 interval training, you'll notice that you're significantly less winded than before.

Wow...I'm happy that he seems to be steadily doing things that make him happy, but I'm a bit (selfishly) bummed.

Even if he never returns to MT, he has left one hell of a legacy to carry on for him.

Either way, upvoted! Good luck :)

What is/are your immediate physical turn-off(s)? by No_disintegrationsin AskReddit

I completely agree. The twist is: I smoked for nine years, and I can't even fathom how I participated in an activity so devoid of benefit or merit.

It doesn't even make me pity people, it just pisses me off that they don't give a shit about their bodies.

Torn up feet by Lisurgecin MuayThai

[–]MFChrisB 0 points1 point ago

I have the exact same problem, and I gotta give a +1 to super glue.

If there is excess skin hanging off, trim it with a pair of cuticle scissors. Before applying the glue, it can help to lightly buff (DO NOT DO THIS IF THERE ARE OPEN WOUNDS) the area with a pumice stone first. If there is an open wound, apply a non petroleum-based triple antibiotic sparingly to the area prior to gluing.

2 1/2 weeks of training, first sparring session last night.... :( by dugllesin MuayThai

[–]MFChrisB 3 points4 points ago

This. I've seen several folks comment on how they've been sparring within the first month of training, and I think it's way too soon.

If people would take more time being sticklers for technique and really running through pad drills (with occasional offensive "checks" from the pad holder), it will lead to a lot more confidence and readiness in sparring.

What weird thing have you noticed about your body since you started exercising? by The_King_Fucks_Goatsin Fitness

[–]MFChrisB 1 point2 points ago

It's definitely worth a shot :)

Just go in a tank top and normal gym shorts (I'd probably recommend some boxer briefs/briefs under...lest everyone sees your "hang-downs") and ignore the hippy speak that your instructor might throw out there (unless the hippy speak helps).

Be open to the idea of doing pilates (or if it's not accessible, yoga) once a week. I've heard guys scoff at the idea for being perceived as feminine, but it's frankly macho bullshit.

I train in Muay Thai, and it is required for all fighters (and recommended for all folks training) that you go at least once a week. I've been doing both for a month now, with one yoga day cold, and one pilates day after training, and I can absolutely see the difference. I'm much more comfortable when I lift, and even walking around feels much less "tight."

Guys who had a gut and now have a 6-pack.. what factors contributed to your success? by that_electric_feelin Fitness

Congrats on the loss, man! To be honest, I'm completely ignorant of low-carb or keto diets, but I'm glad that works also.

I absolutely agree. If you're trying to cut and keep calories down, macadamias and almonds would have to be eaten in VERY small amounts. IIRC, a cup of almonds has 800 or so calories.

I just realized that there are a lot of pipes in the Super Mario games because Mario and Luigi are plumbers. What very obvious things have you recently realized? by kirbeein AskReddit

[–]MFChrisB 9 points10 points ago

This is incorrect. Not one theory of the word "hip-hop"'s etymology points to this at all.

Cowboy from The Furious Five first bridged the two words together, lampooning the noise Army troops made when marching. He later used it as a cadence-setting rhyme during breakdancing routines. Spectators called them "hip-hoppers."

From there, people reverse-engineered the word's meaning (once again referencing energetic breakdancing routines) as hip (young Black folks' word for "cool" or "with it") hop (how the breakers/poppers moved on the dance floor).

Shops in New York? by donteatthecheesein wicked_edge

As a regular denizen of this establishment, I endorse this post :)

There is a particularly massive array of aftershaves and soaps/creams. The prices usually match (and sometimes, beat) those you will find online.

Friendly staff, as well.

First straight razor shave today... by Hlaorooin wicked_edge

Personally, my razor is a lot less forgiving the closer the angle gets to 90 degrees. It's possible others may have different feelings on this, but that has been my personal experience.

+1, as always, sir :)

I might add that an addition of alum to post-shave routine (ideally followed by witch hazel and/or a alcohol-free post shave balm) will most likely decrease the likelihood of irritation.

I can't begin to describe how much of a difference this made in my shave routine when I was starting out.

[–]MFChrisB 2 points3 points ago

It certainly gets better, and you definitely jumped into the proverbial pool as opposed to dipping your toes ;)

Keep the blade at 30 degrees (or even a little less) against your skin and start with your cheeks. Complete only the parts that feel comfortable, finishing the rest with your cartridge setup. As you learn to get the "feel" of a correct angle, move to your jawline/throat/whatever is the next easiest area for you. It's VERY easy to cut your chin up and get a load of skipping action in that area, so ease in to it.

Also, I don't know how everyone feels about this, but keep your strokes short. You don't have to clear an entire area in one swipe, just focus on the angle in short (1 cm-ish) strokes.

I have slightly oily skin, so I use "Cupcake" and "Oatifix" masques by Lush Cosmetics once a week.

If I have a blemish, spend too much time near the polishing wheel, or spend a night in the woods, an occasional facial scrub with "Ocean Salt" (by Lush) is great, as well.

I promise they aren't paying me to say this, haha.

Soap storage question by cuteinternin wicked_edge

[–]MFChrisB 1 point2 points ago

If you don't wish to have another mug around, there's absolutely nothing wrong with loading your brush while holding the soap in your hand, then building lather in a mug.

Alternatively, grab a piece of heavy-duty Tupperware close to the size of the puck and store it in there and load your brush while the puck sits in it.

On iMessage it says "delivered" once it has supposedly reached the recipient, BUT, I texted my girlfriend while sitting next to her and got a "delivered" indicator when it actually failed to do so. I don't know if anyone else has had that issue.
