Are you using the latest version of taktor and the S4 there was on update after v2 that provided better dual core processor support the versions before only used a single core.

Make sure background service priority is set. turn off all power saving including power management on each usb port. try different usb ports. disable WIFI , Bluetooth , built in audio.

I use the traktor scratch pro + S4 with 2 cd's as live inputs , full effects and loops over all 4 decks on a i3 dual core with 4gb of ram and it never ever drops anything.

current intel Integrated graphics are more enough for traktor.

Do you have hyper threading enabled ? it could be a problem with traktor using a hyperthread. Perphaps force traktor to use a single processor core.

Have you used DPC latency checker to make sure it's OK ? http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml If this is in the green then ASIO will run without glitches if it's showing red then it will dropout.

I set laptops up for music production as a full time job and also DJ part time 5-6 hours at a time.

Direct sound is not used in traktor it has it's own ASIO driver that runs at very low latnecy but ASIO used a background service so setting the background service priority will help. What is task manager showing while using traktor ?

No matter what anyone says do not install Asio4all with the traktor S4.

first install windows your self and only install drivers required none of the rubbish that came with it.

Disable hardware that you dont need while using traktor like wifi this can be looking for signal and eating away at cpu cycles that the asio driver needs.

make sure the power profile it set to always on.

under system / advanced system / performance /settings / advanced make sure scheduling is set to background the s2 will use an asio driver and this uses the background service.

I use an acer aspire with i3-370 cpu 8gb of ram and a custom windows install just for traktor and the s4 I can run it down to any latency i want and have all 4 decks with both fx channels I have not a single problem and i use it 6 hours at the weekends.

setting a larger buffer size will help but it will reduce the response of the controls. if you want to check your laptop is running smooth use the dpc latency checker and make sure the bars are in the green. http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml
