"I have a friend who swears by the fact that fat girls give the best blowjobs" [186/43] by Jewbilationin ShitRedditSays

[–]LadyTRex 14 points15 points ago

I mean, all this does is make me not want to ever give a guy a blow job. I used to think giving oral sex was a fun sexy thing to do, but since it's obviously a degrading act of desperation, I'll skip it. I'll make sure to let the next dude know who's at fault if he complains.

Honestly, I don't know. After the fact, they talk about how inappropriate he is, but no one's ever told him how creepy/uncool he is. I've moved to a different city now, so at least I can pretend he doesn't exist.

You know, this really really bugs me. It's not my job to stop you from assaulting me. There's this guy (if he's not a redditor, I'd be SHOCKED, as he's reddit.avi) who will slowly move his hands towards my body until I push him away -- he does this because I've made it clear I'm a feminist, and also that I don't want him to touch me. It's like a test + punishment. He has, on different occasions, said "Place a breast in my hand," with his outstretched hand ready to "receive", and reached to put his hand between my legs (among other attempts to assault me in public, surrounded by friends). The first time it happened, he acted "apologetic" saying something like "It's worth a try". If I weren't constantly vigilant, I don't know that he'd stop before he touched me.

Sorry for the non-circlejerky rant; that comment just really got to me.

I just read this quotation today, and it made me think of this kind of situation:
"When you take a word into your mouth you must realize that you have not taken a tool that can be thrown aside if it will not do the job, but you are fixed in a direction of thought which comes from afar and stretches beyond you" - Hans-Georg Gadamer
Now if only I could believe for the smallest moment that it would cause any to think twice.

2x gets confused with what feminism is. Lets the MRM define it as misandry. "The term equalist is something more and more of us indentify with these days." [+37] by cblnamein ShitRedditSays

I met one of these guys (he introduced me to the idea of MRA -- I'd been blissfully unaware of it before I met him) -- and he is a condescending jerk-face (but super pretty, so...). He has this uber-rational sheen that he sprays everything with, and LOVES to talk about how all humans (but him) are inherently useless, since only he can be sure of his own motivations/intellect/logic. I mean, it's a nice way to win all arguments (in your own mind), but it made it super frustrating to talk to him.

This is definitely the first time I've even felt this way -- it's a testament to SRS's awesomeness that I felt comfortable mentioning it!

Um...not to be a party pooper, and believe me, I get the joke, but one reason I like SRS is that my existence as a woman lady dinosaur wasn't getting erased by comments like "WE'RE ALL DUDES HERE LOL".
So...yeah: I get that it's hilarious to tell people that SRS is full of the exact type of person they make fun of, but... this made me sad-face.

Body Modification and Privelege by dreamleakingin SRSDiscussion

[–]LadyTRex 21 points22 points ago

I see where you're coming from, and certainly there is a line to draw between choice and genetics in terms of discussing privilege, especially since it seems so much more unfair for someone to be oppressed because of what they are rather than what they choose to do.

However, I think it's unfair to unilaterally dismiss the question of privilege when it comes to body modification -- there are a number of body modifications that are considered socially acceptable, such as some forms of plastic surgery and certain types of piercings; there is a stigma against some types of body modification (that is steeped in classism and sometimes racism) but others are considered "normal" (or almost ubiquitous, such as pierced ears for women in North America -- but only within certain parameters)...

I think there's more to the question than "You decided to look/act this way, so you deserve the scorn/'to be perceived a certain way'".
And this isn't even getting into the question of how body modification is tied into different cultures: is it fair to tell someone that if they enact their cultural expression, they will be looked upon differently/scornfully and it's their own fault?

Yeah I was surprised when I literally morphed into another human being, however briefly. I'm looking into ways to monetize this.

Explain Like I'm 5: Fatphobia. by CacophonyForeverin SRSDiscussion

It's amazing how it always seems to boil down to "healthy food + exercise" -- not starving yourself, not "liquid fasting", not counting calories/points/carbs/backwards from a million and praying to the god of willpower. Of course, determining what counts as "healthy food" and "enough exercise" for you is also not always so clear/easy.

It sucks if it makes anorexic people feel bad

Please then, recognize that (as you stated earlier) this is a safe space, and triggering language like a flat-out "eat less" approach is not helpful.

Male Feminist vs. Feminist Ally by Metaphoricalsimilein SRSDiscussion

[–]LadyTRex 1 point2 points ago

I've been surprised to meet people who I assumed were feminists (because they were, you know, good people who believe in things like bodily autonomy, freedom of choice, equality of genders, etc, etc), but who don't describe themselves as such because they balk at the name. It's part of the reason why I've made a conscious change to show my feminism more frequently...because maybe if there are enough feminists (men and women) who are demonstrably not the awful "feminazi" stereotype claim the term, maybe that will help? (it probably won't, but I can dream, right?)

Please try to avoid assuming that everyone has the ability to lead the type of life you advocate. For example, not everyone has access to the type of food that allows you to "eat less" and still take in the need-to-live amount of nutrients (because your body needs more than calories to function). People who live in food deserts may not be able to afford to access healthy foods. Another example is that people who are not economically privileged may be too busy with work/school/etc to put effort into their meals and exercise regimes.
Finally, when you tell people to "eat less", you're in danger of supporting disordered eating: messages like this are dangerous not only to people who are body-shamed for their fatness, but also to people who are anorexic and bulimic.
ETA: Especially when your argument seems to be that it's not important to eat healthy, just to eat less. I'm not sure how that is a safe lifestyle.

It's been a while since I've done any reading in this area, but there is a movement called Fat Acceptance that separates the need to eat healthily and exercise from the (social) "need" to be skinny. That is, there is a recognition that you can improve/keep your health by eating healthily and exercising, but skinniness isn't always a result.

Is it ableist to speak disparagingly of lapses in ability? by neutronicusin SRSDiscussion

[–]LadyTRex 2 points3 points ago

Thanks so much for explaining this...I'm also trying to figure out/unpack my own ableism and this gave me a complete "click" moment.

Things to ask: why is it not ok to forget your keys or make a mistake? (beside inconvenience or other natural consequences?) Why do we have to insult ourselves for it?
It's a total social construct that it is stupid or lacking for doing something that is natural and human.

Re-reading it now, it seems so obvious!

I think my favourite part is where the_raptor derails completely and starts the ridiculous FTFY. Because it's SO relevant that some officers (surely both males and women) don't like being in the infantry, but still want to be a career officer, so they do it but don't have a passion for it? I'm trying to wrap my head around why this helps the_raptor's argument at all -- not because it doesn't make sense (which it doesn't...), but because I have NO IDEA WHAT THE POINT OF IT IS. WHY IS THAT EVEN A THING THAT'S IMPORTANT TO POINT OUT. MY HEAD HURTS NOW.
