Long story short there are fast acting and slow acting signal cascades that make up an immuno response to inflammation or nerve damage; just because the injury is no longer 'being caused' does not mean your body doesn't need to be wary of it to allow time to heal so there is a system in place with an immediate response and a secondary response to insure you don't do anything stupid.

I actually study neuropathic pain which is pretty convoluted as a research area and shares much the same pathways as inflammatory pain but is different in some ways. This is my attempt at a very basic description.

There are quite a few researchers I have known in my career who are just too 'aspergers-y' to be able to communicate outside the science realm.

That being said, I also think that asking a researcher to make up two versions of their findings is like asking anyone to do their job in duplicate...it's going to be met with some aversion.

There is some research that is so technically involved it is also unclear to me whether it could be explained in laymans' terms. I am in neuroscience and even I don't get some of that shit...

I dated a guy in college for 2 and a half years. After the first year and a half together, we moved in with a few friends in the same house with separate rooms. He then began to insist that I go home with him to his parents every weekend, sleep in his room every night, and take his classes. Every time I tried to break up with him he would throw huge fits and punch walls or threaten to go get into car accidents.

When I did manage to move out and finally end it, he would still show up at my classes/lectures, hand me notes, try to hug me, call me 30 times a day etc. I threw a party a month after we broke up and found out later that he spent the entire night parked in our lot drinking.

He sent me flowers with a card that read: to the girl i'll never let go.
