Great eye! This is exactly where the photo was taken. Over near the Lincoln memorial.

Seeing it in person...kinda makes you want to vomit. by [deleted]in pittsburgh

[–]KingSnot 12 points13 points ago

Exactly. Prime expensive real estate and on top of it sits a building that has absolutely no practical use anymore. Why was this even a controversy ripping it down? Get rid of the thing.

Want to get a HD quality camera for making short films, what should i go with? by VicRamenin filmmaking

[–]KingSnot 2 points3 points ago

I think it's worth saying.. Your equipment doesn't make a short film. Perhaps you already know this but perhaps you don't. A lot of new "filmmakers" think they need the greatest camera out there in order to tell their story. This is just not the case. In fact I just posted a short film a couple months ago if you look on my profile. (i'll just post it here. http://vimeo.com/32392945) I shot it to a $600 dollar consumer camera (HF100) Granted I put 35mm lenses in front I was trying to prove the point that what is SOOOO much more important than the actual gear is the people running the equipment. The lighting, sound, makeup, etc. Most importantly it's about what happens in FRONT of the camera IE: Acting, story, etc. Please don't forget this (or anyone else reading this).

Panasonic Lumix GH2 lenses and filter suggestions? by MirroredColorsin filmmaking

[–]KingSnot 0 points1 point ago

I'm coming in a little late to the party but I just picked up a GH2 and a Tokina 11-16mm(nikon mount). Fantastic combo. I also got a novoflex nikon to 4/3 to use all my manual nikons 35mm, 50mm, 85mm F1.4s.

A ninja recorder is going to gain you very little for a set up like this. The entire reason why the driftwood hacks are great (I have Q7 on mine) is because of the huge bit rate increase recording directly to your secure digital card. Granted in order to use the 170mb hack I had to buy a $200 dollar card that can handle that bit rate but well worth it. The hdmi output isn't 100% clean either.

I just bought a Tokina 11-16mm and it's as wonderful as people say.

Steven, "skew" or otherwise known as rolling shutter issues have very little to do with shutter "speed" settings. The reason you get rolling shutter on fast pan movements is because the time it takes a camera to scan from the top of the sensor to the bottom. If you start a pan and the camera is scanning the top of the sensor and you pan so quickly by the time the scan is to the bottom of the sensor your camera is not in the same place the tilted "skew" will happen.

ALL cmos style sensors have this issue, from DSLR's to RED EPIC's to ALEXA's. Granted the extreme high end cameras have gotten it much more under control by being able to scan faster but it's still there in the footage.

I found it on ebay new a couple weeks ago. The names of the dealers are escaping me but I've seen a few dealers selling for as low as $700 recently. A good site to keep up with things GH2 related is the section at dvxuser

Best bang for the buck right now if you aren't concerned with recording great sound to the camera (you can always record to a separate recorder) is the Panasonic GH2 DSLR. I just picked up a new one with a kit lens (not a great lens) for $600. There are now firmware hacks that can greatly improve the stock image. Bit rates from stock 24mb AVCHD to 170mb+ AVCIntra. Crazy!

I'm sorry but the OP repeatedly stated that he lost money or was looking to make money with his video.

I came on here to say THIS. This person is complaining about someone stealing his "work" yet is using video of a game he didn't create that is someone elses "work". He is using Sam Jackson's voice from someone ELSE's work.. and to boot is recording other peoples voices/performances and using it to make money for himself. I find this whole thread kind of hypocritical.

Be careful selling these. Lucas Film Limited is one of the most ruthless companies out there protecting their trademarks/property. I do love it though!

I disagree. Low end or high end, content is still the most important thing. Period. (I work in production as well)

Achieving cinematic look with HD camcorder? by lookoutworldin Filmmakers

[–]KingSnot 0 points1 point ago

Very well put. Gear is only a very small % of what makes a film look like a film. I actually posted a few weeks ago a short film I made using a consumer camera trying to show exactly this point (Check it out if you like). It's the crew, acting, story, set, etc. Once again GEAR IS ONLY A SMALL PART of what makes a movie look like a movie.

Nothing, which was the point. It was just showing typical "real" world life and how the priest appears to typical "real" world people. We then see what this character is actually like later in the film.

Thanks, thats why I purposely used a consumer camera. I was hoping to show people not to worry about what the newest and greatest camera is, but to learn how to use whatever you have available to tell a story.

The camera was just a consumer HF100 which I put Nikon lenses in front of. The audio gear was a bit of a cheat since I do sound for a living I already owned top notch stuff. (This film used a Schoeps CMC6/MK41 into a Sound Devices 788T) Thanks so much!

I used a Letus. I could have actually gotten a much cleaner image without it and added some blur/grain later, but with something like this I think it was much better to see how it looked as we went. I appreciate you guys watching it!! (I wish I could figure out better compression for the web so there wasn't quite as much banding/noise but it is what it is. Looks much better on blu ray :P )

I borrowed or already owned most of the gear. I had to buy a priest shirt, rosary, rented a fog machine.. and I spent around $200 on food for everyone that helped out. :) If you can't pay people you have to at least feed them well!

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Again guys, I appreciate you taking the time to watch it. It honestly means the world to me. I put an awful lot of time into it to try to prove to myself how if you don't have access to a camera/lenses that cost $50K and up to not let it stop you from telling a story. I hope just one up and comer gets something out of that. I do wish I had better knowledge of how to get more views on the net, which is why I appreciate you taking the time to watch.
