Spare Bits: What Do You Do With Them? by AMDeckerin Warhammer

[–]KingKrapp 0 points1 point ago

I keep 'em, and when I get enough, clip 'em all and sort them into bags. Do it long enough and you can basically make free models with no or very slight expenditure.

Mitchell does re-use shit waaay too often (Jurgen is so very phlegmatic), but I find the books an excellent, engaging, and entertaining read nonetheless.

The forge world ones have their own codices, but you can just run them as a regular guardsman army if you want.

IG foot army list C&C por favor by Puppy_stomperin Warhammer

Okay, here's my actual help.

Get a current codex. You can't use the old codex. Because there's a newer one. Your list is meaningless because it is made using an old codex. Get the current one.

Step 2: Use current codex.

1500 point Imperial Guard Army list! with a steel legion theme by Astartes40000in Warhammer

[–]KingKrapp 1 point2 points ago

Oh, the idea is cool enough, and if it was cheaper then it could work, but as of now, the squad is going to cost at least 185 points (Squad + Doctrine + 3x Melta + Chimera) and could easily be totally neutered by a bad demo blast scatter. On top of that, assaulting a tank means that you're right in the middle of the enemy and you've been out of the chimera for at least a turn, and that's a baaaad place for a handful of T3, 5+ dudes to be, especially if they're waving melta everywhere.

Quick question about Forge World models by gnit2in Warhammer

[–]KingKrapp 4 points5 points ago

Basically, Forge World release supplemental books that are designed to work with 40k. These are often not allowed in tournaments, but most people should be cool with you using them as long as you clear it with them first.

Forge World also do a bunch of models. Some are for their custom rules, such as the Tauros Venator - these are the ones you'd have to clear with people - stuff like this either doesn't exist in the vanilla game, or has a different ruleset.

There are also just Forge World versions of Games Workshop models, such as this Artemia Pattern Hellhound. This is just a fancy looking version of a standard Hellhound, and as such as long as your opponent knows that it's just a Hellhound, you're fine using it.

If you bought a Deimos Pattern Rhino and played it using the standard Games Workshop Rhino rules then you are in the clear.

Eep, I'll hand in my Aquila now, I've been distracted by Blood Angels and Warmahordes :P

You're right, Grenadiers is carapace. Still overpriced, just like all the doctrines.

[–]KingKrapp 1 point2 points ago

The following advice will be ignoring the Steel Legion stuff as I'm a) not familiar with their fluff, and b) I don't know how much you want list and fluff to meld.

Drop all the upgrades from the company command squad except for the plasmas. Give them 2 more of those.

ALL your chimeras should be Multilaser/Heavy Flamer.

You probably want meltas on your storm trooper squad, then deep strike them. Ditch the plasma pistol, they're overpriced and underperforming.

Ditch the bolt pistols on your veterans. Only take bolt pistols if you have a few spare points. You'll barely use them and the points are better elsewhere.

Drop the grenade launchers on your Veterans. They are your elite can-actually-shoot-at-things-reliably squads. Give them good weapons. Say, two squads with 3x melta, one squad with 3x plasma. Chimeras all around with Multilaser/heavy flamer.

Drop Grenadiers. You're paying 90 points for 3 one-shot demo charges with a range so short that there's a good chance of it scattering back and destroying the squad and tank. The melta bombs aren't super useful, if your guardsmen are assaulting, something has gone wrong.

Swap the Valkyrie for a Vendetta. They're the same cost, you already have plenty of anti infantry and the Vendetta is just ludicrously good.

Heavy support is okay. Hyrdras and bastion-breacher Medusas are also good choices.

Why not just swap half the plasmas to melta? More AT, save points. Maybe use the leftover points for some lance/wings furiosos? Adds more mech, more AT and would add some tarpit/hard hits in CC.

Not poking holes in your comment, but just FYI, buying from Amazon as an Aussie is usually either impossible (they won't ship/don't have digital distribution available) or too expensive (their shipping is regularly more than the cost of the item).

Thinking of getting back into it, this is what i have from back in the day. Advice would be appreciated.(IG) by The_Enemy_Withinin Warhammer

Just remember, you have a 1250pt list, but it's not a good list. You'd have to proxy or buy more stuff to get something competitive.

Almost every 'infantry only' server, at least for Squad Deathmatch. by Lt_Levin battlefield3

[–]KingKrapp 1 point2 points ago

I ran an infantry only sqdm server for about 5 months, and we had vehicles enabled.

Why? Because the vast majority of people don't look at the custom search settings and will never see the server if the preset isn't normal. Before we enabled vehicle spawn we had a full server maybe once a week, if that. After we enabled vehicles, we had a full server almost all the time, with a developing community and loads of repeat players.

People would hop in the tank, the other players would remind them of the rule and a lot of the time they'd get out. Infantry only was in the title, in the automated chat message and known by the majority of the player base. There was also a report function that allowed players to report tank users to me via a chat command so I could act.

We had lots of players either get told off or miss the warnings and get kicked, who would re-join the server and become regular players.

The basic fact is that our infantry only server became a better place with vehicles enabled.
