WTT/WTG - 2 bottles of CE Bigelow Cologne by _Losin Shave_Bazaar

I don't have anything to trade, but I'm interested in this. If you don't get anyone else willing to trade something for it, let me know.

Anyone know of a good aftershave balm that has an SPF? by Munnjoin wicked_edge

[–]Jonukas 1 point2 points ago

If you have a Trader Joe's nearby, you could try their Enrich Moisturizing Face Lotion. It's not marketed as an aftershave, but will probably do the job.

So I know this is W/E, but what else have I been missing besides wet shaving? Marvis, Shampoo bars...? by justateburritoin wicked_edge

Wow, thanks for the info! I knew that regular shampoos and conditioners weren't good for hair, but didn't know of any other options. Now to survey the available products!

Where can I find good fish & chips in Bloomington? by Jonukasin bloomington

Found the menu. It's really tofu. Might be good, but not exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for the info though.

Thanks for the insight. I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that if I want "real" and good fish & chips, we'll need to make it ourselves.

Yeah, probably a consequence of not having a good supply of fresh seafood around here.

I hate chains, but it's an option. For that matter, I wonder if I should try Red Lobster.

Shave brush harbors bacteria? by fastswimguyin wicked_edge

[–]Jonukas 1 point2 points ago

Um, what about toothbrushes? I'm sure they harbor just as much bacteria. Good thing that dermatologist doesn't use one of those filthy things!

Taylor of Old Bond Street flavor? by one13in wicked_edge

Try the Shave Den. They have the best selection of TOBS samples (all of them except the Sensitive Skin one which might be unscented). You can purchase single samples or in six-packs.

Giving away my stuff by shiaruain wicked_edge

[–]Jonukas -2 points-1 points ago

I'd like to have the lot (including the partially used items), but I wouldn't consider myself new to wet shaving.

In any case, If the person you decide to give it to doesn't want the partially used items (shaving cream, soap, alum block), I'd gladly take them. I'm still using Edge shave gel in a can (only because I didn't want to waste it). I'm on my last can, and need to start looking for some better products.

There is an Art of Shaving store in the Fashion Mall at Keystone, but I'd like to know if there is anywhere else (especially since I'm in Bloomington).

Edit: stupid typo

I am moderately new to Mac OSX and I often see in here and r/apple that people quite often use the terminal. What things could I use it for that I don't know about? by Sagerianin applehelp

Play games

In Lion, the version of emacs is 22.1, so type:

ls /usr/share/emacs/22.1/lisp/play/

to see the list of games.

Finally, a proper barbershop (shave) in Bloomington! by Jonukasin bloomington

[–]Jonukas[S] 0 points1 point ago

I think washing your face before you go is a good idea. I usually shave every other day, but if I'm getting a shave at a barber, I usually go without shaving for at least three days. You can go in with a fuller beard if you have it, but it I don't think it makes the shave any better. He'll probably take electric clippers to a full beard to make it more manageable before prepping with hot towels, oil, etc.

I'd just call and ask: Jay (812) 332-0444. See what he says.

The haircut was $15. The same price as the Bloomington Barber Shop which was where I was getting my haircuts previously. Jay used the clipper-over-comb method which I understand produces better results. I was very happy with the haircut and how nice it looked. I'd definitely give him a try. There is another barber there (Brad), but don't know how good he is.

The shave was $20. I didn't notice what type of straight razor he used, but he did say that he used Art of Shaving products. IIRC, the prep involved a hot towel, pre-shave oil, lather, another hot towel, then another lather application. The lather was from a hot lather machine--no brush :-(. The post shave was great. I forget the exact order, but something like hot towel, then a cold towel sprayed with witch hazel (or some other cooling substance) with a couple of hot towels on top. After the towels are removed, cool air is fanned over the face to cool it... so good. Then a post-shave moisturizer. The last part was unexpected: he had an old-fashion hand massager and massaged my shoulders and upper arms.

All in all, a great and relaxing experience. I can't afford to do this all the time, but it's a nice treat every once in a while.
