What's been your best piece of business? by azzurri10in footballmanagergames

In FM11, I bought Dzeko, Tevez, and Pastore all on frees.

You have just found an Ivan Gaz-enie in a bottle. He grants you three transfers in, and three players out. Who's coming and who's going? by d_boin Gunners

Actually, he was incredible on the flank. He won his first Ballon d'Or playing on the right. It happens though, that a player of Messi's genius would best be utilized where he can have the most influence on the pitch; this happens to be in the middle.

Is it possible to email save game data? by ImmanuelXavierin PS3

[–]ImmanuelXavier[S] 0 points1 point ago

Err, please humour me as I give you the specific example. The game in question is FIFA12. This game has many "save types", as it has many game modes. One of these particular game modes entails creating your own character, which gets upgraded et cetera; the file for this character is separate and unique. Given this information, if I extract said file and send it to someone, will they not be able to use it in their own account?

What if it's only a single file from a game, not necessarily entire saved game? If that makes sense. Could it be used by another account?

Neuer wasn't the best in the bundesliga either. It has to be Casillas IMO.

Neuer hasn't been world class this season.

Cristiano plays on the left, and Messi has never played on the left as a pro, when he played on the wing it was always on the right.

Out: squishy, chamakh, park

In (wishful thinking): Messi, Oezil, Lahm.

In (more realistic, kinda): M'Vila, Kagawa, (versatile fullback, meaning can play both sides)

I will cry if he goes to United.

They've been the front runners for a while, so you should get your tissues ready just in case. SAF even went to watch their last game of the season in the cup final.

Can we compete for a title considering what Chelsea, ManU and Mancity will/are up to in the transfer window by __mandingo__in Gunners

Yeah, good thing we're getting Messi, Hamsik, Lahm, and Ribery this summer

If we can have a consistent starting 11, free of injuries, then I think we could win the league. For stretches in the past few seasons, we've been the best team in the league, capable of matching or bettering anyone.

On the importance of Thomas Vermaelen to Arsenal's defense. by ImmanuelXavierin Gunners

[–]ImmanuelXavier[S] 2 points3 points ago

There are obviously a plethora of factors dictating the outcome of a football match. However, to dismiss the importance of the findings here as insignificant is stupid.

To continue the Ramsey example: he played with Arteta and Song partnering him in the majority of his starts (who both had significantly higher win percentages when featured in the team), but still failed to impress. You therefore can't blame his partners. He also started in games ranging from little importance to those of massive significance.

Again, I will reiterate my point, but I'll expand on it in hopes that you understand. These sorts of statistics show the type of impact, whether positive or negative, players have on their teams. From these findings, you can delve deeper and see exactly why players seem to have such effects. What is telling in ramsey's case here is the adverse affect his playing style has on the team. If you watched many of his games, you probably noticed his affect on the team's fluidity, and his apparent inability to fit into the team's system successfully. When ramsey plays, attacks become slow, we become less penetrative, and less cohesive as a unit. As a result, the team does not play as well as it does when ramsey doesn't start.

To be fare, the captain Lahm took his penalty and took it well indeed.

On the importance of Thomas Vermaelen to Arsenal's defense. by ImmanuelXavierin Gunners

[–]ImmanuelXavier[S] 1 point2 points ago

It doesn't take a tactical genius to discern the fact that when a defender goes up, a midfielder should drop back to cover for him.

It's just getting to me that stats are creeping into people's arguments about who should play where and in what position, when football's much more than just numbers.

The thing is, statistics like the ones provided here are facts. For example, it is a fact that we have played better and defended a lot better, when Vermaelen has been in the starting 11. It is also a fact that we play better when Ramsey does not start.

It is unwise to dismiss such facts as "mere numbers".

As a matter of fact, the statistics provided in this article are extremely telling, and are very useful for determining the influence of certain players to their teams' performances. I don't understand why you started your comment the way you did, because you started out dismissing the legitimacy of the stats, then went on to indirectly approve the ones provided in the article.

It's not a matter of who has exactly how many attempts at goal and how often or who completed the most passes - those stats are often obscured by missing nuances that are significant to the team game

I suggest you take time to reread the article, because these are not the types of statistics being discussed here. As it stands, it is a fact that Thomas Vermaelen makes jawdropping difference to the stability of our defense. No defender in Europe has such a positive impact on his team's defense.

[–]ImmanuelXavier 22 points23 points ago

The reason it is understandable is because going into the pivotal penalty shootout of the biggest game on the footballing calendar, you would want to select your players who are most confident with themselves and in their ability to convert their penalty. It would therefore be understandable for the nervous players to refuse to take penalties, as they would not be in the proper state to take them.

Having said that, the fact that virtually the entire first team refused is disappointing and is cowardly.

I've only seen him play twice, and based on what I saw and what I've read about him in general, he is very much like RvP in his movement. But obviously not quite at Robin's level. He'd probably be a backup if we do get him and if RvP does stay.

A lot had to do with the two teams' differing mentalities going into the penalties. Momentum was completely on Chelsea's side. It was understandable that the Bayern players refused to take pens, although rather craven.
