It's legalese for events outside of human control such as a mass flood or another kind of natural disaster for which no one can be held responsible.

My phone was stolen, should I file a police report? by nyuncatin nyc

[–]IdesOfMarch 0 points1 point ago

My little brother did, and they contacted him when the thief brought his iPhone to the Genius Bar after "forgetting his passcode." They asked the thief if he knew his phone number, and when he couldn't say it, they held the phone and someone from the store contacted my little brother.

My phone was stolen, should I file a police report? by nyuncatin nyc

[–]IdesOfMarch 0 points1 point ago

If it's an iPhone, use Find my iPhone. If it is still an iPhone, and you don't have that activated, call AppleCare and report the phone and serial number stolen. Once the phone is brought to an Apple store for service, it will be under your name in their system, and they will contact you.

I was once babysitting these kids in my building, when I was much younger and I had taken them to see a movie. I was given money to take the kids home via cab, and that's exactly what we did. Upon entering the cab, I looked at the license as I always did to check if it was expired for my safety and the kids' safety. It turned out the driver was my second cousin whom I have not seen since leaving Bosnia during the war. We had a very long conversation on the way home. He didn't charge me, but I gave him all the cab money as a tip because his family was going through a fairly rough patch. The next wedding I saw him at two years later, he came up to me and gave me twice the money I gave him because he finally got the dream job he always wanted (and earned way more than being a cab driver). It's not that we were distant cousins at all, it's just that sometimes, you need to heal from wars and tragedy in your own way.

Can any ladies of TwoX relate to this? by IdesOfMarchin TwoXChromosomes

Thanks for the advice. Could going from a high stress environment to a low stress environment do something? Could the egg have been a dud? (because I'm still feeling cramps)

I went on a vacation the day before it was due to start. It was on such a regular schedule that I had an app for it and it was always on time. I missed a period when I was a teenager...not due to pregnancy. Could it be that I went from a very high stress environment to a low stress environment?

Here is a cached link because HuffPo took it down for some reason.

I hope they keep the old signage though, because that is a landmarked building.

Is France really hated in the USA ? by SThorin AskReddit

[–]IdesOfMarch 0 points1 point ago

During the Bosnian war, my family had to go to France in order to get into the United States. I lived in Paris for about nine months before I moved, so I learned quite a bit of French. Once I attended college, I took French classes and finally got a chance to go back to Paris last year with my fiance.

When he was younger, he attended the American University of Paris, so he knew a little French himself, but I was far more fluent. When we sat down to eat at a restaurant one day near our hotel, I ordered our meal in perfect French. The waiter made small talk, asked us where we were from because I had an "interesting accent" and my fiance clearly looked Italian. I told him we traveled from the United States, which made him gape and he said "I thought Americans didn't care to learn other languages, I was wrong about your ignorance." He proceeded to give us free hors d'oeuvres throughout the meal.

I had some nice experiences in France. The French are generally nice when you try to speak French (like my fiance) just like any other country you're visiting and giving the native tongue a try.

I work at a retail outlet with high tourist traffic and we generally have customers who are visiting the United States. Most of them are from Brazil and don't even try to speak English, and they wonder why we get a little peeved when they speak Portuguese when we clearly state that we don't speak their language.

What do you think of Uniqlo? by toyumein nyc

It's not cheap in the sense that the clothing is of poor quality, it's cheap in the sense that it's affordable.

What do you think of Uniqlo? by toyumein nyc

[–]IdesOfMarch 1 point2 points ago

I love Uniqlo. I totally live for their cheap chic, but the best part about their clothing is that the quality is relatively high for the low prices. When I used to shop at Urban Outfitters, their quality was shit for the prices they had(ve).

The store is kind of futuristic, if you will. All white walls and floors, and dance music blasting. One of my friends described it as the "Apple Store of clothing stores" because everything is simply organized. I would suggest going to the SoHo one if you want to actually find something but the Fifth Avenue location is just large and crazy with flashing lights and stuff. Hope that helped!

DAE think Oprah looks a bit scary in this pic? My mother was a huge fan of hers and watched her show whenever possible, but seriously, she does not look the same.

I just wanted to take this moment and say that your guile and bravery on speaking out against our broken government is inspiring. When that video of you speaking came out on YouTube, I showed it to my mother, who doesn't speak or think very highly of same sex marriage, and she cried while exclaiming that she wanted to be forgiven for all the terrible things she said. It has yet to fully change her, but I feel like buying your book and giving it to her (I plan to read it first) will definitely help her on her journey, so once again, thank you.

And since this is an AMA:
