It's beautiful how your argument basically points out that you care more about your status than animals.

This is exactly like anti-choice people, if they really cared about saving 'souls' and babies, they'd encourage contraception and sex-ed. If you cared about animals, you'd be glad that some people just aren't eating them. thanks for giving us a bad name out there and hating on people who are helping the cause, keep up the good work!

You're still not going to find the same influence when the product has already been bought. The restaurant would probably slightly alter the recipe unless people were only leaving pieces of meat (which op didn't point out).

As much as I don't like her (for her music largely), I'm starting to find these assumptions that she's a gold-digger in every single topic, quite tiresome. She was a supermodel, most of them date rock-stars and influential people.

From my experience, I can't say that the criticisms I've heard about France are totally unwarranted.

Being someone who's travelled a lot, I would have expected you to understand the difference in etiquette and cultural differences regarding social interaction in France as opposed to basically saying that a few bad apples represent all of France and/or that your understanding of what is customary in one country can be judged by the standards of a very different culture.

I love how if I said something like this about Americans being stupid or whatever other stereotype I would be shot down...

It's not about being snob it's about having different cultures and different etiquette about communication and interaction.

Vegetarianism/Veganism is about respecting all life

Wow!, what a generalisation... Just so you know plenty of people are veg for environmental or health reasons.

Because it's an interesting question on ethics and also because we're not r/circlejerk.

That's different because the product has already been bought in the case of the leftover chinese food. Thus it being thrown away doesn't actually affect production. If a supermarket starts seeing a huge increase in a product being wasted, they'll stock less of it.

Most are completely aware of where their meat comes from.

Absolutely no way. I support a charity that lobbies for better conditions in farming and 90% of their work is actually trying to get that information out there (I started supporting them as a meat-eater). Many meat-eaters may supect things are not great but truly they have absolutely no idea about the beak-trimming, the tail-cutting, the living in a shoebox and all the rest.

You know when I first went veg, I decided to follow the 'ethics' of a friend of a friend who would eat meat only if it was given to him accidentally in a restaurant and would be thrown away. It's sensible in the sense that wasting is even worse, not to mention the environmental impact of decaying food in landfills (which produces methane). It happened to me twice over the course of two years but nowadays I'm not sure I would anymore as I just feel so great physically without meat and animal products -not to mention that the second time it happened my stomach was a mess for a whole day- and I don't want to start being complacent about it, I think many people would start like that and then maybe just start eating meat from a variety of sources again and stop putting in the effort.

Anyhow thank you for sharing your thoughts!

P.S.: rabbits, which are eaten quite a bit in Europe, are currently the species with the least amount of laws protecting them in intensive farming...

It's beautiful! There's a shop outside Greenwich market (London) that has a whole pane of Agate slices your piece reminds me of.
