TROPHY CASE

Short film made for my English Final. First time really trying to use color correction, chroma keying, and premiere pro. Criticism appreciated. by ColdToastin Filmmakers

A thoroughly enjoyable short, it is clear you put a lot of work into this. Some considerations are maybe the sound quality in certain parts. I would've maybe extended it time wise just a bit as well as it seems somewhat rushed, but overall very good.

Libertarian view on Sports by GhostSonatain Libertarian

[–]GhostSonata[S] 3 points4 points ago

I really can't speak for the rest of country with absolute certainty, but I can say that here in South Florida this is very much true that the taxpayer had to foot the bill for a new stadium as in the case of the Marlins new ballpark. It was well documented by Real Sports on HBO even. The Link is only of the short, I can't find the full length segment but it still illustrates the point.

Furthermore I think it's prevalent and often times the rule that tax dollars fund new stadiums and not the owners, at least that's what I've seen countless times that a new stadium deal is discussed for any franchise, the Minnesota Vikings being the latest case. But again, I can only speak with certainty for South Florida since it's local politics here.

I wonder about this too and it's an interesting question. I would tend to agree with you. However, what would happen if society were to create tremendous surplus in goods and services to the point everyone's needs were met through the free market with increasingly dropping costs of living? Say for example what happened in Star Trek by the 23rd century when poverty was eliminated through technology. I'm not advocating it but it's an interesting hypothetical to consider.

What he is saying is that not all socialism is necessarily statist, even though of course an anarchist society based on socialist economics is entirely theoretical.

Marxism is horrific authoritarian dystopia, agreed. But communism/socialism as an idea predates Marx. That's not to say I even feel anti-state free association socialists have it right, but it's a long way off from what you're talking about.

Sixers are probably the worst offensive team to make the Second Round, When their defense isn't at full throttle they just don't have enough to win games.

Brazil still has a way to go but from what I've been hearing that reputation is starting to erode now and the trend towards open markets is slowly but progressively growing in Brazil.

Ennui is a French variant of boredom that expresses it with a bit of a feeling of emptiness in life attached to it. It's more than just classical boredom.

Anybody else kinda tired of r/politics' hate of Ayn Rand? by MisterAwesome333in Libertarian

[–]GhostSonata 18 points19 points ago

Not sure why you ask the question here, Ayn Rand is not a poster child for American Libertarianism, and if she was we should be rightly ridiculed for it.

GAME THREAD: Chicago Bulls (2-3) @ Philadelphia (3-2) 76ers - (May. 10, 2012) by thefatalacein nba

This Philly team is awful, they can't rebound the ball for shit, go missing on offense just as much as a Rose-less Bulls team does, and are not really that convincing on defense. I would not be surprised to see the Celtics sweep them.

Libertarian socialism/communism? by chitwinin Libertarian

[–]GhostSonata 1 point2 points ago

Socialism/communism are indeed forceful historically speaking, the problem of course is the idea of collectivism in general has been so perverted by Marxist Authoritarian hogwash that it's difficult to conceive of any non-coercive examples, but there have been a few here and there throughout history, always being extinguished rather quickly. Whether these small examples could translate into a functional economy of some sorts is a huge question.

yahoo_bot is absolutely correct, I'm afraid you have been terribly misinformed about Scandinavia as some sort of bastion of civil rights. Sweden has recently made homeschooling illegal as well, they are descending into liberal nanny state totalitarianism if anything.

Watching DS9 for the first time on Netflix, and I noticed there's a marked change from Season 1 to 2 - the writing is more gritty and engaging, vs. the slow watered-down stories before. Any explanation? Did they fire the original writers? by florinandreiin DeepSpaceNine

[–]GhostSonata 18 points19 points ago

Not sure, I think they were just really getting their footing just as in any ST series in its opening season. DS9 still has comparatively the best first season of all the post TOS shows.

I can say though that when Ronald Moore joined the production team in season 3 things really went to a whole new level.

Amazing, one of the greatest comebacks ever. I thought their play was embarrassing 3 and a half quarters but they never stopped trying to claw back. Amazing.

Leverage has had plenty of ST stars as well. Wil Wheaton, Jeri Ryan, Armin Shimmerman, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, John Billingsley, Saul Rubinek from the Most Toys, probably more minor characters as well.

A win in spite of the refs blatantly trying to sway things for Atlanta. Good job Celtics.
