Scroll Rack value rising quickly by HiggsBoson0in magicTCG

I'm a little confused about what data you'd like to have access to, and what you want to predict with that data.

I mean, I know that one of the best predictors of tomorrow's sales data are today's sales data, but that's not exactly something you can exploit. Making money usually depends on predicting how things will be different day-to-day.

Judge wants Xbox 360 banned in US by T-rex_with_a_gunin Games

Very bad headline. An import ban is extremely different from what's being implied when you say "Judge wants xbox 360 banned."

Why is Diablo III still a work in progress? | Ars Technica by ipsumdolorsitametin Games

[–]GNG 2 points3 points ago

I reject the notion that hot-fixing 5 character skills within a week of releasing the game amounts to acknowledging that the game was "broken."

Does the fact that Diablo II was patched in 2010 merit the same, extremely negative, reaction? Why not? That means the whole game was "incomplete," right?

Testing companies like VMC labs are looking for bugs and glitches, not gameplay balance issues. Their testers do things like "spend a couple of days simply running around with a baseball bat and trying to break every storefront." Balance is on top of that.

Enemies are going to wreck you if you're careless and just charge in and attack attack attack.

Except 4 Kings, who will wreck you if you don't.

There's no excuse for dying more than once to the Catacombs Wheel Skeletons (especially if you know how to make them fall through the world). The Painted World basement skeletons on the other hand are BULLSHIT.

Is using a bow worth it? by Monthralin darksouls

[–]GNG 0 points1 point ago

If you're talking about PvE, using a bow trivializes a lot of otherwise-difficult spots. The giant undead dragons in the Valley of Drakes and the Painted World, for example, can both be killed without ever being in harm's way by just standing back and killing them with a bow.

Blighttown is also made much easier by going slowly and using your bow to shoot any enemy you can see. Since hitting one will only bring it and not its buddies, and since you know it's coming, you should have no problem proceeding calmly through this supposedly-difficult area.

Exalted confirmed as a returning mechanic in M13. by Suedarsin magicTCG

Cool. I really like exalted as a limited mechanic, but the pressure to keep up with colored casting costs in Alara limited always overshadowed its usefulness.

Casting Undying Evil on Creature (w/ undying) by ReadyplayerTwoin magicTCG

[–]GNG 4 points5 points ago

The counters co-exist until the game gets around to moving them, which happens after whatever put them there resolves completely, but before any player gets priority. However, it does that simultaneously with moving creatures with 0 toughness/lethal damage to the graveyard.

So we go directly from having both types of counters to being in the graveyard, meaning that the creature is never on the battlefield without +1/+1 counters.

Quick question about declaring blockers and attackers. by DankBeardin magicTCG

[–]GNG 4 points5 points ago

In the scenario you describe, you'll take no damage unless the attacking creature has Trample (or is a Thorn Elemental).

Casting Undying Evil on Creature (w/ undying) by ReadyplayerTwoin magicTCG

[–]GNG 8 points9 points ago

No, actually.

If a creature with undying that has a +1/+1 counter on it receives enough -1/-1 counters to cause it to be destroyed by lethal damage or put into its owner's graveyard for having 0 or less toughness, undying won't trigger and the card won't return to the battlefield. That's because undying checks the creature's existence just before it leaves the battlefield, and it still has all those counters on it at that point.

Enough Of Single-Player MMOs by xmidoin Games

[–]GNG 0 points1 point ago

At the time WoW was released, the largest MMO (in the US at least) was Everquest. In Everquest, as of mid-2000:

It takes from 40 to 100 days of /play time (each day is 24 hours spent playing, so 10 days /play is 240 hours) for someone's first character to get to the original level cap of 50.

and...

It takes from 35 to 50 days /played to get from 51 to 60.

In 2004, the level cap in Everquest was 65, and there was no particularly significant increase in leveling speed between 2000 and 2004.

Leveling in WoW never took a long time. It was always fast and it's only gotten faster.

Brainstorming for Ghave EDH by jellomoosein magicTCG

[–]GNG 0 points1 point ago

If there's another word that adequately describes Ghave + Cathar's Crusade, I haven't heard it. (Edit: Except maybe "filthy")

Very strong cards:

  • Cathar's Crusade
  • Geralf's Messenger
  • Mikaeus the Unhallowed

Infinite combo enablers:

  • Phyrexian Altar
  • Ashnod's Altar
  • Earthcraft

Brainstorming for Ghave EDH by jellomoosein magicTCG

[–]GNG 0 points1 point ago

How limited do you want your interactions to be? Some are just limited by the amount of mana you have available. For example, Mikaeus the Unhallowed + Ghave, or Cathar's Crusade + Ghave is limited by the number of mana you have, but both are still obscenely strong. Add in Phyrexian Altar or Ashnod's Altar and suddenly you're in the realm of the infinite.

Any creature that naturally has Undying is extremely strong, but Geralf's Messenger in particular becomes 2 mana -> 2 damage.
