Don't discount a job posting based on the post or description. It paid off for me by FuturePoliticianin jobs

30-35k is what I landed but I think I got lucky. I'd been looking for 6 months and was ready to take 26k. My description was very short. They described it as a computer installer with extensive travel.

I just got a job that requires extensive travel. Ive never traveled or flown before. Any advice for flying, driving, and hotel stays? by FuturePoliticianin AskReddit

Thanks. My luggage actually came with a garment bag for that. Do hotels have irons?

I just got a huge rolling case from samsonite. I travel for a week at a time but I could possibly do a carry on only. I'd have to see exactly how big a carry on can be. I sometimes take equipment in my checked luggage it seems

Got a job in Arab, AL and I am moving down there by ryanj629in HuntsvilleAlabama

Not a bad idea. Plus apartments will be about 100-200 a month cheaper for their equivalents in Huntsville I've noticed.

Yeah, I drive to Huntsville 5 days a week and it sucks. There is nothing between here and Huntsville really so you're looking at 30-45 minutes from Huntsville. There is also a big mountain when you enter/leave Huntsville.

I spend $16 a day on gas for work.

Internet is pretty easy to get. I'm not exactly sure on speeds but we get stuff quick. We have charter and AT&T cable options I believe. T1, t2, etc. we have 3G and 4g cell phone speeds. Huntsville can prob get higher speeds but I don't know what you require.

Check out Oteleco and charter for your options. Use the zip code 35016 for Arab.

There are 3 gyms I believe. One in the centre of town that isn't bad but it's super crowded lately because they got tanning beds so everyone goes there. There's one right across from your work that looks pretty nice and theres a crappier one near your work too in the sports center/gymnastics/cheerleader place. Theres also a very nice therapy plus about 20 mins away in guntersville. Indoor pool, sauna, very nice.

Yeah, not much night life. There are 2 Or 3 bars here but I can't say I blame you for not wanting to drive so far to a bar

I have never had a run in with a redneck or ultra churchy person after high school personally. You might see some in Walmart but I have had any bad encounters.

There is without a doubt more in Huntsville but its all on the other side of Huntsville than you would be living, like 20 minutes across town. There are tons of bars. A few clubs. Some places with live bands. 3 malls, 2 useful ones. 3 or 4 theaters (the nice one in bridge street has a VIP area with awesome chairs and a bar, you can drink there), etc.

Guntersville is about 20 minutes away and has a theater and the lake.

We usually go to Huntsville for fun

I'm living in Arab and working in Huntsville considering moving but it's so much cheaper in Arab. Also not so much crime to worry with.

I live in Arab.

First off, you took the job I applied for I think! Haha I got one anyway last week tho so it's all good.

Secondly, its not that bad. It's small, but there are about 10 places to eat(Arby's, taco bell, subway, local places, etc)

Most people are friendly. There are rednecks but not too bad, it's mostly middle-middle upper class people.

We have a very low crime rate.

It's almost entirely white. 98.9% according to the census.

Living: There are roughly 6 apartment complexes and they are all on the same side of town basically. They are going to range from 350-500 I believe for a single. I'm actually starting to look because I'm moving out of my parents house. I'll prob be very helpful and might be interested in a room mate if your looking; although I'll prob get a single room.

Garden court apartments are the cheapest and most likely the crappiest, or at least the room my mom lived in. Could be worth looking at if you're in the 330/350 price range. Mom also said she had been in some nice rooms there.

I haven't been to many of them. Amber wood is on mainstreet. Brandy wine is close to that also. Green tree is right off of highway 69. West side looks nice. Quail Ridge and hunters landing are over there too. None really have websites so you'll have to google for numbers.

When are you moving?

All of the apartments are within a mile of each other. The whole city is based around highway 231 and it doesn't take long to get to anything. I would not suggest living in Huntsville to work in Arab, people do the opposite. Everyone lives here and works in Huntsville. You'll be a 5 minute drive from everything.

Leave any of those places you'll pass, in order: Subway, food land, local food, car place, 5-6 banks, McDonald's, KFC, papa johns, car lot, taco bell, pizza hut, gym, gas stations, cvs, wal mart, church, warehouse groceries, jacks, gym, work. Thats maybe 5 miles. It's all a straight shot on the highway with 6 lights tops.

Ask away any questions. I grew up here until college at Bama and I'm back now but I work in Huntsville.

Also sorry for any spelling or format errors, I'm on an iPad

I have a job interview tomorrow for network/computer installer. I have one more chance to prove my knowledge, what are some important things to know? by FuturePoliticianin networking

[–]FuturePolitician[S] 0 points1 point ago

It's a small business. They asked me to change a static IP (typed the given IP into a browser and changed it when I found it) found it originally by using ipconfig.

To my surprise, after that, they closed the laptop and just talked to me about the job for an hour. They ended up hiring me for the job and hiring my direct competitor for a development position. I met him and he's a cool guy.
