The Great Healthcare Rip-Off | "The more I have understood, the saner single-payer appears. If the free market cannot work in healthcare - and it has failed spectacularly in this country to provide even a semblance of value-for-money - then it may be time to grasp the nettle." by dave723in politics

I've come to believe the free market isn't about competition, supply and demand, and the best product and services rising to the top. Rather it's more about the corporations being free to buy politicians and thus policy and regulation is implemented to benefit the corporation regardless of market/consumer input.

I'm doing both Smithing and AH. Hopefully something will be done about bad crap shoot with crafting, but at least it gets you some achievements.

AH does seem they way to go, even though I question the ridiculousness of the pricing some expect. It'll be interesting to see how the gold to real money "exchange rate" will be with the Currency AH.

You should see my kids' Orthodontist. The guy only hires hot chicks and makes them all dress and wear their hair the same. It's kinda creepy.

Would you support legislation limiting top pay in a company to a certain multiple of their lowest paid employee / subcontractor's employee? by rawrgsin politics

[–]FriarNurgle 1 point2 points ago

Pretty much every company receives tax breaks for this or that. It could be argued that due to the high compensation packages for CEOs and executives has been subsidized by the taxpayers especially considering the high unemployment rates and low income growth for the average American. The tax breaks are to help lure companies to an area and spur growth but it seems that the only thing growing is income inequality.

Love the concept. We define a minimum wage, so a maximum wage is logical... but would never happen. However I feel we may have reached a tipping point where shareholders are questioning the high compensation packages. Think it's time to start reigning them in and bring things back to reality.

On a side note: could you imagine what our wages would look like if the past few decades of growth in compensation was distributed evenly within a company?
