What story do you tell that no one belives until you provide proof? (NSFW pics inside) by Leuffenin AskReddit

Story doesn't check out: you say you were in USA, but those pictures are from Global, a Canadian television network!

At AA open discussion meetings, do you prefer "war stories" or stories about life in recovery? by locuesterin stopdrinking

[–]Franks2000inchTV 2 points3 points ago

"War stories" are really bad for recovery. They are, in a way, celebrations of alcoholism, they can be triggering for other members of the group, and can very quickly lead to competitions about who was the "better" alcoholic. They should really be avoided at meetings, if only for the other people in the group who might be triggered by them.

LPT: How to fight your speeding ticket by bokbokin LifeProTips

Something tells me that traffic wasn't going 90mph in a 55mph zone (which is what OP was ticketed for.)

[–]Franks2000inchTV 3 points4 points ago

Here in Ontario, driving with the flow of traffic is more important (legally) than going the speed limit. If traffic is moving at 120kph and you pull onto the freeway at 100kph, then YOU are the one creating a dangerous situation.

This guy got a ticket for going 90 in a 55 zone. Preeeeeetty sure that wasn't a calibration error.

ALRIGHT I'M UP. FUCK. by SchrodingersLunchboxin funny

[–]Franks2000inchTV 3 points4 points ago

This.

If you think about it, setting a series of alarms like that just trains your brain that alarms are not important.

You teach it 3x "sleep through this! " and 1x "wake up!" Which do you think will stick?

If you really have trouble waking up, set a really loud alarm across the room. Then you have to stand up and get out of bed to turn it off.

Hey Reddit, I have a great idea for a business and I'm wondering how to start. I basically have a business plan all done and I have everyone that I show the business plan to really excited and enthusiastic about it. How can I get it all moving? by antglyin AskReddit

[–]Franks2000inchTV 5 points6 points ago

If your business plan doesn't cover "how to get the business started" then you don't have a business plan.

The business plan should tell you how to get it started. That's kind of the whole point.

Your business plan should include everything you need to know to run your business. Theoretically, you should be able to hand it to someone and without any other knowledge they should be able to read it and run your business.

If you haven't included information about how you plan to get funded, then you need to figure that out.

Go work for google. It'll be great to have it on your resume, and you can bank some money to take a run at a startup after you've got more experience.

Working at google will teach you best practices, and if you take advantage of it, they can teach you a ton of new skills.

I've visited the google campus a couple times and it seems like a really terrific place to work.

To the guys: when you wolf-whistle at ladies, do you think you're paying them a compliment they should appreciate? by 5minuteconsultin AskReddit

[–]Franks2000inchTV 0 points1 point ago

What about complients to women you already know/have a relationship with (friends, co-workers, etc) -- in that context is "you look nice today" as threatening? Or is it only when you don't know the person?

How do I introduce an appliance maker to a patent owned by someone else (and get paid)? by DoctorVaingloriousin Entrepreneur

[–]Franks2000inchTV 3 points4 points ago

Well, the only thing I can see is get a job with the patent owner as a sales person.

If you approach the patent holder, don't expect to just tell them the idea and get paid. That's not how business works, and it would be pretty gross for you to expect that.

You'd need to offer some kind of value in return. Have a proposal to go and sell the license. If you don't have any experience in corporate sales to big organizations, then don't bother. Have your own idea and make money off that.

A few big companies are already doing what I want to do. Should I even bother? by samofnyin startups

[–]Franks2000inchTV 0 points1 point ago

Maybe?

  • how protectable is your idea? Do you have patents? If you get some traction what's to stop your well-funded competitors from stealing your business model?

  • are you going to deliver SIGNIFICANTLY greater value than existing services?

  • how are you going to access the channels? Those big companies are well established. How will you convince customers to leave them?

  • do you have an experienced team? Have the people you are working with, or do you yourself have a deep understanding of the market you're looking to enter? It's medical, so you should also be very familiar with insurance as well.

You've picked yourself a hell of a fight. Going into payments and medical means your business will drown in red tape. My recommendation is find another idea, but if you feel confident that you have a protectable idea, a strong go-to-market strategy and enough knowledge about the space to competently attack a known weakness in the industry, then you can give it a shot.

Taxes on casino winnings are built in, but as a Canadian you can claim them back. There are services that will o it and charge you an outrageous percentage, but you should be able to figure it out on your own.

Americans get taxed on lottery winnings (up to 50%) so when you see someone win a million dollars on a game show, they usually take home about $470,000.

Also large companies in the IPO are offered the shares at a discount. So it's unlikely that any big firms payed $38. They probably got it for $32 - $34.

Close Call with Driver Failing to Yield and Almost Crashing into Vehicle by n734lqin driving

[–]Franks2000inchTV 0 points1 point ago

I don't understand why that driver had to slam on the brakes. It was clear the car was turning onto the road, so he should have slowed down well before then.

Was the other car right? Well no, they should have waited for more open space, or gotten up to speed quicker. I don't see what slamming into their rear bumper teaches them though.

going to the coca cola 600 next weekend, this is going to be my first race and im canadian. what should i expect? by junkiemanin NASCAR

[–]Franks2000inchTV 1 point2 points ago

A ton of fun! I'm a Canadian and went to a truck series race in Kentucky and it was THE BEST.

Definitely have an open mind -- just because someone has an accent, it doesn't mean they're a stereotype (although you'll meet plenty of stereotypes too, which is also part of the fun.)

DEFINITELY rent a scanner. It's pretty expensive, but it's so worth it. Really changes the way you watch the race. if you get it from one of the trucks by the race, they'll have programmed all the cars' frequencies into it for you, so you just punch in the car number to listen.

Scanners all come with big earmuff headphones that will save your ears from the noise, but bring some back-up foam plugs just in case. YOU WILL suffer some hearing loss if you don't have some kind of hearing protection. It is as loud as a rock concert or louder.

A pair of binoculars is also a good idea, but not totally necessary. The scale of the track is crazy though. Things can be REALLY far away. It's not like a football game. Think of a football stadium and multiply it by 4.

Enjoy yourself! I'm super jealous!

Ford can win again; here’s why by ride_my_bikein toronto

[–]Franks2000inchTV 0 points1 point ago

In that story they published both sides of the story. It it was libel, he would have sued and won.

Ford is the mayor of Toronto. The Toronto Star is the largest and most respected paper here in the city of Toronto. They are going to cover him.

It's not harassment. It's their job.
