My first build and first mod! A custom top to fit my radiator. (imgur album) by FrankTDin pcmods

[–]FrankTD[S] 0 points1 point ago

I agree. I've never sleeved cables and need to look into it. I had thought of doing that but just wanted to get it put together. For the label on the fan I had thought of doing a some carbon circles and putting them there. Not sure I can get them thin enough though. I actually have three fans on the inside, radiator, then three more fans on top/outside. It moves a lot of air.

I have a UV light and had bought UV fluid but it doesn't seem to be showing up. The UV stickers on the ram show up fine so I'm guessing my fluid got mislabeled. When I do the rest of this work (sleeving, etc.) I'll probably get more fluid so that it is UV.

Yea I am thinking of dropping the radiator on the inside and building a carbon frame for the fans as well. I wasn't sure how much clearance I would have inside at first but it will fit.

Cleanly cutting metal? by matenziin pcmods

[–]FrankTD 0 points1 point ago*

It doesn't really matter. either way you are going to sand it with some sort of power sander. I recently modded the top of my case to fit the radiator I wanted. I cut it out with a dremel, sanded it almost flat with a trautman with a sanding cone attached, then filed a nice pretty straight line onto it. After that I wet sanded it and prepped it for paint. I am about to put up an album of it (once I get around to setting up imgur). Just finished it a few days ago!

If lightening usually strikes the highest point, do ships out to sea get struck often? by rickreflexin askscience

[–]FrankTD 16 points17 points ago

Semi-related...almost, but interesting! I was a rescue swimmer in the US Navy. We wouldn't jump from the helo at night, we would ride the hoist down. Helicopters are giant static electricity machines. When I touched the water I would always get the biggest shock (since I became the ground). It's one of those terrible memories that I hated at the time and has now become nostalgic and I wouldn't trade for the world.

Now to be on subject a little you want a path for the electricity to go from point of lightning strike into the ocean.

As a black Southerner, why do Northerners think whites in the South are so much more racist or racism is much more prevalent? by TheDarkSouthin AskReddit

[–]FrankTD 1 point2 points ago

I grew up in upstate New York and have always thought the south more racist (just me being ignorant I guess) and I think it has to do with the confederate flag. To me that flag screams "Institutional Slavery, Fuck Yea!" It wasn't until recently I became friends with a guy from South Carolina and we talked about it and how much that flag means state's rights. I understand his viewpoint but still that flag leaves me thinking racism.

agreed, to rough it up though use a fine grit sandpaper like 600 or 1000 so that you don't get and deep gouges in the paint. if it looks too orange peel, or you can see scratches in the paint wet sand and paint it again with a thinner coat.

I'm using Swiftech parts. This is my first build and my friend is helping me. He has used Swiftech for years and has had no problems. For now I am watercooling my cpu adn chipset and will add the gpu later on (waterblock isn't made yet, I got a 7870). Corsair does have some self contained cpu only systems, and I believe there are others out there like it. It all depends on how much time and money you want to invest in it. Swiftech has kits and then you can also buy the parts individually which is what I did. Sorry I don't know many other brands, hope this helps!

The British "phlegm" of this post is in a lot of the author Evelyn Waugh's work. Wartime specific, the book Put Out More Flags.
