I hit my target weight today! by brightifritin loseit

[–]FourteenThousand 0 points1 point ago

My dad has nightshade allergy. Seems like that could be one of your problems. Nightshade family includes tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, all hot peppers, bell peppers, and tobacco. (I hope you don't smoke cigarettes.)

Also, eating at a restaurant is pretty hard for him, even without the dairy and gluten problems. It must be literally impossible for you.

Dear Losers: Do you agree or disagree with the people who say losing weight solves zero problems? by Creamshakesin loseit

[–]FourteenThousand 2 points3 points ago

Hmm... I look at it this way. Losing weight helps me run faster, so it helps the problem of me running slow. But also training helps me run faster as well as lose weight, so it is a system of co-dependency. Losing weight doesn't really make me happy, but running faster does (cause that's my main goal in my personal weightloss journey.) Soo.... Weightloss is only one step in the right direction of becoming who I want to be.

Scale Victory: I can use it! (Also, alternative to soda?) by vazzarothin loseit

The 0 calorie flavored waters are going to be far better for you than Arizona tea (something like 80 calories for only 8 oz) or juice, which is better than Arizona tea, but still has plently of calories.

Congrats on your SV! Keep up the good work. BTW, my roommate has that same scale as you.

Most, if not all of us have had [NSV] experiences large and small, but what were some of your weirdest weight loss experiences? (examples provided in thread) by cdncommiein loseit

[–]FourteenThousand 0 points1 point ago

Yeah my belly and hips feel huge! This is where a lot of my weight is, and I don't expect to be feeling the bottom of my ribcage until I'm very close to my goal weight.

I understand that. I used to smoke and run (when I was skinny), now I'm trying to lose weight and run but I have quit smoking. It sure is disappointing that I used to run faster when I smoked! Well, I probably didn't run faster because I smoked, but just because I wasn't overweight then! But I will get back there and hopefully surpass my previous times!

Thanks. I've weighed 155 before but now at 165 I seem to have a lot more fat than just 10 lbs over what I used to weigh. I think I need to work on my leg muscles... More squats...

Yeah, I understand that. Sometimes I just wish my weightloss was more apparent! Recently had a party for my daughter's first birthday. All the same people came as those who came to her "baby shower" which we had a week after her birth. Many I hadn't seen since then. No one saw any difference in my weight. Then again, I wasn't really the focus of the party!

Thanks. I always admire people who have lost so much more than me, because this journey is a constant struggle for me. It makes me happy to know I'm on the right track, but it is hard sometimes.

Thanks. Yeah, I feel that my body composition has changed a lot since having my baby. It seems that I still have more fat than I "should" for my weight and height. But each person's body is different, so I just hope to get healthy and lose the fat and feel better!

One question about juice fasting... by juicingQin Juicing

[–]FourteenThousand 2 points3 points ago

In the movie, the girl does talk about "being very cleaned out." So I assume the answer to your question is a big fat no. Buy I haven't had my first juice fast yet so I am just going based upon what I heard from the girl (forgot her name) in Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead.

I know this wasn't the intention of this post, but it made me kind of depressed. It made me realize that normal people can feel their ribs and hips poking out. I cannot.

Anyway, I haven't see my body change all that much yet (20 lbs lost, 40 left to go). Sometimes it really feels like I have a long way to go.

Society definitely helped me lose weight. This community, as well as my running friend encouraging me. People are social animals and our habits often reflect the habits of those around us. This is why I suggested that it is a shared responsibility. Each person must be responsible for their own health, but a healthy environment sure does make it easier.

And yes, I think that the general acceptance of drinking alcohol rests with society.

In a certain sense, yes, but not all blame rests with the individual. Our whole society subsidizes unhealthy foods and the access to foods has increased. So while an individual may overeat, what social factors encouraged them to overeat? The blame does not belong to a single person alone. However, people should also take some of the responsibility and be aware of what and how much they are eating.

29/F, 250-ish pounds. My biggest stumbling block... by jstar222in loseit

[–]FourteenThousand 1 point2 points ago

Keep focused on the non-scale-victories, like improving in C25k. Personally, I've said this before, I'm not losing weight just to lose weight or to "look thinner" or any of that crap. I could care less. What I care about is improving my running times, and I need to lose fat in order to run faster. It certainly doesn't have to be about looks. If you love your body already, you are definitely heading in the right direction! Keep loving yourself as you accomplish your other health goals.

Operation:Spring Cleaning (RCL) Week 6 Discussion thread by raidercjin loseit

[–]FourteenThousand 1 point2 points ago

This week I dropped all that weight my body didn't want to let go of last week. I lost 4 lbs this week even though my calorie counting told me I would lose 1-2. I didn't lose weight last week even though I should have, so that weight finally dropped off. I've now lost 10 lbs in this challenge. My goal was 2 lbs a week, so I am currently 2 lbs behind, but I'm still pretty happy with that.

Initial starting weight: 185

Challenge starting weight: 175

Current weight: 165

Challenge goal: 151

Final goal weight: 125

Totally understandable.

I'm glad that you've gotten to enjoy exercise! I love running, personally. Too many people are just dead-set against running for no other reason than it is intimidating. That's quite a hurdle you've jumped!

Good luck in your first triathlon! I'd like to do one someday also. The problem with me is the biking. I ran and swam competitively in high school, but I've never raced on a bike, and I don't even have a bike to ride, so I'm pretty out-of-practice with it in general. Maybe I'd better off doing a run/swim duathlon.

Just, wow, though! You are an inspiration to me and lots of other people in this subreddit!

SV: Reached -20 lbs. New flair!

NSV: My last Incline ascent was 49:30, which surpasses my previous time of 52:15 by exactly 2 minutes and 45 seconds. Woo hoo! I'm within approximately 10 minutes of my goal time.

I'm sure it certainly depends upon the individual grower, but I prefer the more clear high of Jack Herer versus the more stoney feel of AK-47. Hey, but that's why they say different tokes for different folks, right?

Running to Lose Weight by skinny_reminderin loseit

[–]FourteenThousand 3 points4 points ago

My main reason that I need to lose weight is to run faster. I find that running really helps center the rest of my life and helps me through the 'bad' diet days.

I love running. I've run two 5k's so far this summer and I'm already signed up for two 10k's. I also am planning to do a 12k and maybe some other races.

Congrats!

I am also an avid mountain hiker. It can be excellent exercise as well as a time for meditation of sorts... A great stress relief. :)

That's fair. Although I did use from about 20 and quit after 25. I feel that my life was positively affected by my marijuana use, and I would never want to take back those years. Sometimes, I do miss it. But, that being said, I am very happy with my life as it is now, also. It wasn't all that hard for me to put down when I needed to. It is something that definitely enhanced my experiences, but it is not required to make my experiences.

Someday, when I retire and I no longer need to stay clean, I will probably go back to occasional use - only to enhance those times that I found my true happiness and inner peace. My favorite time to smoke is deep on a mountain hike.

I guess in conclusion, I would like to say this: you can take the weed out of the hippie, but you can't take the hippie out of the person.
