Easements. In urban areas, skyline, view, and air are all part of the real-estate market.

Shouldn't a true conservative want to end oil subsidies? by silentfollower2012in politics

[–]FloorPlan 2 points3 points ago

Tax break or subsidy, either way results in a net financial gain for the company/person on the receiving end.

If I don't steal your wallet, does that mean you I gave you a subsidy?

A tax break is not a subsidy.

He chose to instead use a much larger platform, a nationally televised Republican debate, to speak out against it.

Social Conservatives Officially Unite on Rick Santorum As Romney Alternative. by reeds1999in politics

[–]FloorPlan 3 points4 points ago

Well considering Ron Paul takes all kinds of positions that are unpopular votes accordingly, and still gets re-elected in his district in landslide victories against establishment candidates I would say that its fair to assume that his 30+ year record at this point speaks for itself. For instance, the fact that he comes from a farm district and gets consistently re-elected on a platform of voting against subsidies is pretty remarkable.

Social Conservatives Officially Unite on Rick Santorum As Romney Alternative. by reeds1999in politics

[–]FloorPlan 3 points4 points ago

Except that his proposal isn't to end those programs. I just finished explaining that Ron Paul feels that it would be immoral to not live up to the promises made to our elderly and poor.

I believe the proposed spending cuts will benefit old people. Paul believes that is immoral to reneg on the promises made by the government to our poor and elderly. Paul wants to reduce spending and shrink government to save money and balance our budget to preserve the integrity of the dollar such that our seniors and impoverished who live on fixed incomes wont see their money constantly devalued.

Ron Paul is for a completely deregulated financial market place, not in favor of re-instating Glass-Steagall, and allow banks to "do whatever they want"? by kerabatsosin politics

[–]FloorPlan 1 point2 points ago

A deregulated financial sector would necessarily have to be more prudent in its practices because the tax payer would not bail them out. You should read more about the federal reserve system if you truly want to learn more about Ron Paul's position. I have and he is absolutely correct about inflation, which is why he pointed out the housing boom years before the inevitable bust.

As of this writing, there are 6 stories on the front page about CNN "cutting off" a Paul supporter but not a single post about the fact that Ron Paul lost the Iowa caucus. by SwiftyLeZarin politics

[–]FloorPlan 0 points1 point ago

Oh I'm well aware, and so are Ron Paul's potential delegates. I'm sure they are far more aware than Santorum's people. I know Ron Paul's supporters are trained in the process and have been informed from the get-go that the strategy is to enter in to a brokered convention. Early reports have been coming out that even in counties where Santorum won the caucus vote, Satorum picked up no delegates, Romney got one, and Paul walked away with the rest. Fun fact, Romney received 5 fewer votes this year than in 2008 despite a higher turnout.

Actually Ron Paul's campaign has been focusing on entering a brokered rnc in august so the worst case for now is that Paul gets the same number of delegates as Romney and Santorum. In reality he will likely get more delegates as Santorum's support isn't as committed.
