TROPHY CASE

Oh boy. by Joke_Chokein WTF

[–]Fauropitotto -1 points0 points ago

Imagine how much more you could do if you could instantly discard the cost, responsibility, and living obligations of your two small children. We're talking thousands of extra dollars per year. Hundreds of hours of your time freed up. No need for a 3-4 bedroom apartment, babysitter costs, food, clothing.

If you think you're enjoying life now, imagine what you could have done without those parasites.

We have friends for exactly that purpose.

Children rarely assume the hobbies of their parents, and eventually grow up to lead lives of their own.

Worse, children invariably consume vast amounts of time and money that prevent their parents from living well, traveling, or pursuing the hobbies they would like to had they the time or money to do so.

HIV/AIDS is managable. You can still live a full and enjoyable life with HIV. Can't do that with children. They suck the life out of you.

I call bullshit.

You don't know me. A threat is a threat.

Why the hell would she have picked up your firearm and pointed it at you then?

I point it out because up until that point, she refused to be anywhere near firearms. This is the reason why I felt safe leaving it on the counter when she came into the house. She's scared of them, so I thought I had nothing to worry about.

Secondly, why the hell would you leave your firearms laying around the house and then invite some senile senior citizens in without supervision?

Because up until that point, she was a senior citizen. She was not a senile senior citizen.

Because trigger discipline is fully expected to be adhered to under all normal situations.

Why comment on something that is completely normal behavior?

It's only when we see something out of the ordinary that it's worth mentioning.

Why not just remove race all together, what purpose does it serve

It serves a purposes of recording the stats associated with each demographic. Each demographic tends to follow trends associated with different cultures, values, etc.

Stop. You're playing at semantics. In common english with ordinary people on this planet in every country, the word American refers exclusively to United States citizens. There is no context in plain english where the word American can be understood to mean anyone born on the north and south american continents and their associated islands. Period.

TL;DR - Nobody likes a smartass.

Sure, Americas, but not America.

If I'm born in the caribbean, I cannot call myself an American, and thus, not African-American.

Precisely why we should just stick to "white, black, hispanic, asian, and other"

I got frustrated by it because my family is from the caribbean. We became Canadian citizens, then eventually American citizens.

When I saw "African American" listed as a race option on government forms and whatnot, it began to bother me. I wasn't African, I wasn't born American, I was just black.

Note, they didn't list English-American, Italian-American, German-American, or other heritage based descriptors. It's not right.

Point was that black people in the US are so far separated from their african ancestors, that the term african-american shouldn't apply to them. Leave african-american for the folks that are first, second, or third generation african immigrants.

CAn someone tell me how to repair a knife? by andrewjackson5in knives

[–]Fauropitotto 2 points3 points ago

Since you haven't provided ANY usable information, just go ahead and use the following.

Buy any knife sharpening kit (that uses stones), and get the edge to whatever you want.

Follow up with a little bit of oil, and leave it alone.

If you're trying to polish a knife for decoration, simply use high grit sandpaper (600+), then follow up with mother's mag on a buffing wheel on a dremel.

Africa-American man

Not trying to pick at you here, but OP said he was a black man. He didn't say he was african american. I'm not quite sure why people find the need to use african american in these situations.

Passed My MSF Course Today!!!!! Learned alot by ZeroKwelin motorcycles

[–]Fauropitotto 2 points3 points ago

Congrats!

There's a whole lot more to learn. Find a responsible mentor (preferably an experienced rider that commutes), and ride with them when you get a chance.

Stay away from the weekend warriors. They often have low mileage, stick to the backroads, and they often don't ride with traffic enough to know what to teach you. They also tend to ride for FUN, rather than ride in a manner that emphasizes absolute safety.

Once you learn to ride, then you can go out and play with the weekend guys in the twisties and whatever shenanigans they get involved with.

I'm done with it all together. No caffeine, no sodas (not sure how long this will last), no nicotine.

I love the stuff, but despite how much I enjoy it, I'm hoping I can quit it all together. What better way than to eliminate the temptation?

Decided to quit coffee, caffine, nicotine, and sodas all together. Started running to. I figure since I've gone over 2 weeks without any of it, another redditor could use these more than I do. So why not?

No it states "the EPA determined that in some cases, hydraulic fracturing chemicals are injected directly into USDWs(undergound sources of drinking water) during the course of normal fracturing operations."

So? How does that change anything I've said? I was talking about the location that they tested the concentration, not the location that the chemicals were injected. The EPA did NOT test the concentration of the chemicals at drinking water extraction points, nor did they test the concentration of the chemicals at a set distance from the injection point. They specifically stated "concentration at point of injection".

Source?

Obviously this depends on the size of the aquifer. Think about it. I found a source of one aquifer that had a size of somewhere around 110 million gallons of water.

Same article mentions coal bed fracking as using 50-350 thousand gallons of water, so we'll average this as 200,000 gallons. Another article says between 0.5 and 2% by volume of these chemicals are in the fracking fluids, so we'll average this as 1.25% or 2500 gallons.

So if we were to assume that a coal bed was right at the middle of this model aquifer, we're talking 2500 gallons in 110,000,000 gallons of water, 0.0022% of the total volume, or 22ppm or 0.022mg/L.

Lets take the most recognizable hazard, ethelene glycol, that the EPA measured as being 287.7 mg/L directly at the injection site....Of course, this concentration is high...but take another reading at the other end of the aquifer, which volumes number into the hundreds of millions of gallons, and you WILL have massive amounts of dilution of these compounds.

The fact that many of these beds form ideal conditions for aquifers, means that these volumes probably scale. Meaning, small sites use lower volumes of the liquid, where as large sites you larger volumes of the liquid. Of course, that means much larger volumes of water.

Common sense and little bit of mathematics is all you need to figure this stuff out.

Moreover, nobody should give a damn about these carcinogens. At these amazingly low concentrations, I'm more likely to get cancer from a day at the beach than I am from drinking this tap water every day for the rest of my life.
