If you're studying to take the GRE in Mandarin, you're doing it wrong. by yozgatsiin ucla

[–]FX4568 0 points1 point ago

I am really sorry about the two parts, my mistake.

Oh goodness. the 20 series quantum chem was quite difficult? Talk about having no future. The professor was god-awful! see? its not just the TA that makes learning bad, but its a combination of you not understanding the subject, your professor and your TA. Don't just blame a man that can't speak good English, blame the whole situation. Also, I think you sound pretty moronic by saying why would you want to learn Chinese... its almost the same question such as why would you want to learn Spanish. Your future is quite dark.

What the outrageous statement? Learn a new language? Okay, it is extreme, but I am asking again, why can't you go to another TA's hour. For fuck's sake, I admitted it was extreme, why can't you address the OTHER SOLUTIONS. If you go to every single class, cool I'm wrong, but there are certainly other ways that you can make up for the bad TA experience.

Also let me nitpick some of your arguments.

Learn quantum chemistry every quarter? I bet you don't even take quantum chemistry because earlier in your argument, you said all shitty TAs get stuck on lower div classes. As my own knowledge, Chem 14 series barely teach any quantum chemistry. So either case 1: you are a freshman/soph that is taking chem, and has a bad TA but is not learning quantum chem. case 2: you are a junior/senior that is taking quantum chem but does not have a bad TA.

If its either of these cases, your arguments either are rooted on a bad learning experience you had about chem/physics/w/e when you were a freshmen, which the easiest solution would be to go to another TA's classes or you are an idiot who wants to boast his major when you are not even taking upper divs.

Also given the fact that most TAs that do not speak English are Chinese, I would say learning Chinese is not a bad idea right now or in your future.

Sweet jesus. The reason why I brought up money is because you started talking about money. Did I ever bring up tuition? Did I ever even gave the hint that I paid more than you before you brought it up? You said you pay 12000 dollars for a shitty TA. I am paying 36000 and I realize that it is one of the experiences that people go through at some point. My point was simple, i pay three times as much as you, but i dont bitch about the money I am paying in proportion to the education I am getting. Its not that I pay more that I get to decide what I run. If your argument were to be right, the Dashew ISS should run UCLA.

As learning a new language, thats just an extreme solution. Of course, I dont even expect myself to do that, why would I expect anyone else to do it. I guess that's pretty extreme, but my point was, there are many other ways to satisfy your shitty learning experience.

I called you a racist? How so? Yes, I called you intolerant and impatient, but I guess that's not the right word. Should I call you a sitting duck that all it does is complain? You are barely addressing one extreme solution that I gave you. What about, going to the professor's office hours? What about going to another TA? If your friends have a better TA, why not go to those TA hours?

My question still stands, do you even go to every single class?

reddit, I've answered a lot your questions about being deaf, and I'd like you to return the favor. I have some questions about hearing. (Also, you can AMA about deafness) by Deafyin AskReddit

Yeah, seriously. It is times like these when I realize that there are so many little things and ways that I can enjoy the world, yet I am sometimes unsatisfied.

Well fuck, I typed up a huge post and forgot to post it. Anyways long story short. First, I pay 36000, so if someone should complain it should be me. English is my 3rd language, and I had to compete with a shitload of asians that paid organizations to write their essays and sometimes take their SATs. Life is not fair, and no matter how hard your life is, someone else will have it worse.

Second, I bet your dad received some leniency because he was a foreigner.

Third, he is not refusing to learn English, he is actually trying to learn.

Fourth, just because I say tolerance and patience it does not make me a liberal. You sound like the fuckers from Illinois that I used to live with that whenever someone didn't have anything smart to say would just call names such as liberal, or w/e.

Fifth, yes. Everyone in this country is a god damn pussy. Pussies that don't look for solutions such as learning the TAs fucking language and talking to him in his own native language, go to the professors office hours, or go to another TA's discussion, or go to another TA's office hours, or read the goddamn textbook.

Sixth, aww ;( shitty TA hinders your learning? I bet you don't even go to all the classes.

In conclusion, shitty TA? I bet you are one shitty student too. Now, instead of complaining about bad TAs, who dont affect your career or your life, how about you complain to the UC Regents that in the end hire these people, and make you pay the 12000 dollars you don't think you are getting a good use out of it. Did you go to any of the occupy UCLA meet ups to complain or Fund the UC by the EVP or have you even called you representative about funding the UC? I don't think so. It is people like you, who are the god damn pussies that complain and bitch for the smallest thing, and when it comes to actually fighting what something is worth for, back out and pretend nothing is happening. Grow some balls, and please complain about bad TAs when you are paying more than 36000 bucks.

First of all, the UCs are almost up to par with private schools. Second, UCs dont even value diversity. My point was clear and simple, you have a problem with his English? Go grab a textbook and learn. I think the OP and you dont need to get worked up over someone with bad English. Its just one quarter, just chill and learn.

You want to talk about real world? Okay lets say you go into a company that values diversity over excellence, and your manager is someone who speaks shitty English. Obviously, you expect some competence in English since this is America. But guess what? They won't give a single fuck. Also, you dont need to do TL;DR in a 4 line paragraph.

Idk how you came up with the racist part, but okay. No one talked anything about race... I understand your second point, but all OP needs is patience and tolerance. You don't need to go apeshit over someone that doesn't know how to speak english as well as he does. Also there are way many options than complain, how about get your textbook out and use it? Or go to the ta? People just complain without looking at any other ways out.

So? Does that change the fact that someone showed him patience? Also, I can just simply change it to say TAs teach you countless time how to do the same shit. All you need is some patience and some tolerance

So you want to limit the expansion of knowledge just because you can't understand someone? Give me a break, teachers had patience with your shitty english, least you can do to society is to shut up and grab an EH&S book and learn by yourself. They probably are self-concious about it, there is no need for you to complain. Thanks for at least not telling them in their faces.

Anyone else miss the "Play me I'm yours piano" outside of Royce, that created such an awesome atmosphere around that quad. Thoughts? by MaxJaxin ucla

[–]FX4568 18 points19 points ago

I really do. It was so awesome to play it late at night after studying for midterms in Powell. Just grab your stuff, walk a little bit, sit and play away. I really miss it :( Also, it was cute seeing all the couples playing piano together in front of Royce ^ foreveralone.jpg BRING IT BACKKK

Hey Bruins! Under which subreddit should we place a "Redditors, help! UC Regents Endanger One of the Rarest Private Japanese Gardens in the US " post for maximum visibility? by tazcelin ucla

[–]FX4568 4 points5 points ago

Although at first intuition I agree with mi1ss1on, it ultimately is a dumb decision. selling it off wont really affect our budget. What, it might be 500 thousand dollars to maintain? thats only 17 dollars to tuition considering there are 30000 people in our school. I really dislike the fact how we think closing down a fucking japanese garden will solve our budget. We are trying to slash and cut useless spending, but the problem is somewhere else. Oh well, time to visit the garden at least once before they close it up. At this rate, the UC will be become a private corporation.

It deserves respect because its another person's belief. Each person you meet deserves respect.

Also, I can never respect religion

I think that contradicts your "I welcome christian comments." and this suggests that you actually do turn a blind eye to the good things religious groups do. If I say I cannot respect you, how is it logical that I can respect the things you do?

All I said is let them be or just delete them from your social networking services. Why cause trouble when you can avoid it?

Respect for the rights of others means peace. Whether you understand how they exercise those rights or not, does not mean you should not respect them.

Also, you said you go and tell your thoughts and comments, thus I believe that you have at least complained about Christian comments. Yes, speaking your mind is good, but also learning to not speak is more important. I really think you overlook some of the things religious groups do. Just because there might be a little evil inside an organization, in this case the church, does not mean you should turn a blind eye on the good things that they do.

If you don't like to see Christian comments in your social networking service, you should have the decency to de-friend them. Adding a "friend" in facebook might just be as acquaintance level, but if you believe that those acquaintances are not for you, you should delete them instead of responding to their status. Also, learning to respect the things that you don't understand is one of the key things of growing up. I might not agree with my parents or the government since their logic might be flawed often times, but that does not mean that they should not be respected.

Just keep it for yourself until the whole funeral is over and wait a few months until it all passes away. There's times for a man to express opinions, but there are also times when you need to stay quiet. Learn to distinguish between the two. Respect is the key to peace, and respect is what your family deserves.

Christian values are.... by joe192in atheism

[–]FX4568 1 point2 points ago

If you claim yourself as an atheist, shouldn't you at least analytically think what you are posting? You say that since writing something sensible is stupid, the American Bill of Rights is also stupid. Freedom of Speech, Quartering Troops, State Power, etc. should be sensible and all obvious shouldnt it? Just because you write something down does not negate the fact that they are important rules. The logic this guy has and yourself is just the same logic you hate about christians. This is not constructive input/criticism, it is just hate and anger.
