TROPHY CASE

Decal Give away #3 of many by nogbogin doctorwho

FYI: Not all downvotes are real. The more popular a topic is, the more the anti-cheating algorithm will fudge the vote scores. Most posts that hit the front page end up with thousands of fake downvotes.

For what it's worth I agree with every part of your post, except that I would use the word criticize instead of condemn. Everybody knows that things went wrong. Anyone trying to tell you otherwise is lost to fanboyism or not paying attention. What's important is that our messages be signal and not noise. Constructive criticism, not simple condemnation. My reply to TheSnowNinja details more of my position.

I'm going to respond to this post, because it's the most rational-sounding one. Better than the guy spouting hyperbole and saying I have pieces of my brain missing.

It was my intention to make clear that Blizzard is NOT above criticism for the issues that occurred. It is obviously true that these issues happened on Blizzard's watch, and the way they played out is in large part due to the decisions that Blizzard has made.

But my rational analysis still expects launch issues. Sure, Blizzard could probably throw billions more dollars into server architecture and ensure that they never have launch-day load issues ever again, but that simply doesn't make business sense. Ignoring the point that you can't simply throw money at a problem and expect it to go away, it is also important to note that launch day is ALWAYS going to get huge spikes in traffic, and we're not going to see their like again until we get another expansion. Thus, it's simply a bad business decision for them to buy 10x as many servers as they use on a regular basis in order to hold the load that appears once every few months (when you're talking about patches) or years (for full games/expansions).

I'll note again that what annoyed me was not that people were frustrated. I know very well the frustration of anticipating something great only to have it pushed back by delays. I've shared it at release after release. What annoys me is when people go online and spout hyperbole about Blizzard not caring about its customers or somehow having something against the people buying their products. Criticism is an important part of the iterative design process, but much of what happened on Reddit was far closer to noise than signal.

Edit: The fact that this got downvoted and not replied to makes me sad. I guess that's what I get for trying to have a discussion on r/gaming.

It's stuff like this (which comes up all the time) that makes me annoyed at some of the kinds of people we saw appear last week. Those who felt it was necessary to degrade Blizzard as a company (not simply criticize, but going further) for the D3 launch troubles. As a longtime blizzard fan I know two things: launches always suck but support is always amazing.

Well, I would, and here's why:

Photobucket accounts don't tend to be used to showcase one's own work. Unlike a comic or DA picture, rehosting from photobucket is not likely to remove any sort of attribution to the original source, as most pictures on photobucket are rehosted anyways. So, if I'm going to link to a rehosted picture, I might as well link to the one that plays nice with the Reddit api.

Fyi, photobucket is a slow and ad-filled image hoster that - for Reddit's purposes at least - is strictly inferior to several alternatives. The most commonly used (such that Reddit Enhancement Suite has inline image viewing for it) is Imgur.

Good DII and DII:LOD solo mods? by accretionin patientgamers

[–]FOcast 0 points1 point ago

Hey, I'm in the same boat as you (in fact I'm trying these mods because of seeing them in this topic), and ran into the same problems. I wasn't able to get any of the resolution mods out there to work with 1.13 (some of the information in the Median XL download is clearly outdated), but I did find that installing and using D2SE made things easier in general. I'm currently running things in normal windowed mode, but I'd be interested to hear if you find something that works.

This four-man contact staff video is my favorite. It's a bit heavy on the editing, but it has some amazing tricks and choreography.

Own3d.tv is a unorganized mess, and a lot of the stream VODs won't even load. Why is twitch.tv losing a lot of big streamers to this website? by esbernin starcraft

I find it unfortunate that your personal experience with the site is being buried by the circlejerk.

Nevertheless, I consistently have problems with VODs. Just today I've tried to watch several videos from a recent tournament in both Firefox and Chrome, and I couldn't get them to play. Some have worked just fine in both browsers, though.

For Firefox users, one can use the awesome bar to search history by simply typing in "reddit good guy greg". Or "ddi go gr" will probably do just as well.

Odd. When I installed it and tried to open, it said to insert the CD, and the Eastern Sun site itself says the CD is required. I'll just go ahead and download an ISO and try out MedianXL in the mean time.

Yes, I am aware that the CD keys are on my account. That's how I reinstalled the game. The problem is that the mod itself is telling me that it needs to see the CD.

Reading about Eastern Sun made me excited to try it, so I redownloaded and reinstalled the game, to find that for some reason it requires the CD. I lost track of my Diablo CDs long ago when Blizzard linked the licenses to my bnet account. Is there any workaround for this, or should I go looking for a LOD ISO?
