TROPHY CASE

Congratulations to Chelsea for winning the final! by Guard01in soccer

[–]ElectricTool 24 points25 points ago

That's why I used 'arguably' - Bayern's finishing was terrible and Chelsea soaked up pressure really well.

Credit to Chelsea - even though Bayern arguably outplayed them over the course of the game, Chelsea held on and on and on until they won it. Bayern didn't take their chances and Neuer could only do so much.

That's far neater than most labs I've seen (including the ones I work in).

[TROUBLESHOOTING] - GTX 580 - 6 Pin & 8 Pin PCI-E connectors - is the often loose pins 7 and 8 required by ccbbb23in buildapc

[–]ElectricTool 1 point2 points ago

The 8-pin connector supplies 150W and the 6-pin provides 75W. Combined with the 75W from PCIe 2.0/2.1, the GTX 580 can use a maximum of 300W.

[–]ElectricTool 1 point2 points ago

That GTX 580 only needs 1 6-pin and 1 8-pin connector. Did this person only have the 6-pin hooked up? Or did he only use 2 6-pins? In either case, he should hook up both 8-pin and 6-pin connectors to the card to give it the right amount of power.

Best monitors for the money? by cactuarcookoffin buildapc

Definitely. I love my U2410 and really want the U2711 but the price is too damn high! I don't like the glossy screens and single input option on the Korean monitors.

Check your fan speed in the games where you feel there is something wrong. Also, wouldn't hurt to check if the GPU is seated firmly in its slot.

Apart from a 3-year warranty, you also get a ton of input options, a USB hub, matte screen, and a card reader from the Ultrasharp.

EDIT: And a proper OSD that gives you a lot of options.

[Build Help] Buy another 6950 or upgrade to 7950? by bxc_thunderin buildapc

[–]ElectricTool 0 points1 point ago

I am currently in the same situation but mainly because I am considering a monitor upgrade to one of those 27/30" ones with 2650x1440/1600 resolution and the 6950 can fetch a decent price on eBay. Buying one 7950 now will leave room for adding a second to get great performance at 2560. The somewhat high price on the 7950/70 and AMD's struggles with CrossFire this generation are holding me back at this point.

But if you buy a 7950, you can overclock it to regain the performance advantage of the 7950 over a 7850.

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 Listed for $415, Core Clocked at 980MHz by manirelliin buildapc

[–]ElectricTool 0 points1 point ago

Then don't. AMD will charge whatever they think the market will support and lower prices when it won't. The high launch prices of the 7970/7950 cards and then the immediate drop in prices once the Nvidia GTX 680 came out is a perfect example.

Please new people. by xdoo675in buildapc

Nobody is stopping you from conversing with the community. All the OP is asking that people should spend some time going through the resources for new builders before asking for help. This way, the newcomers are more informed and ask better (and more specific) questions which in turn allows everyone else to respond to their needs more effectively.

Screen distortion/discoloration when brightness is on low by Thepooksterin GalaxyNexus

[–]ElectricTool 0 points1 point ago

The graininess is part of the AMOLED technology but the degree to which it appears will vary between displays. If yours is really bad or if you get banding, then you have a defective display. And yes, it gets worse at lower brightness levels.

Mass Effect 3 Composers Upset by Improper Credit by zakislamin Games

[–]ElectricTool 1 point2 points ago

Everyone on the ME soundtracks (Jack Wall, Sam Hulick, Clint Mansell, etc.) is an outside contractor.

Mass Effect 3 Composers Upset by Improper Credit by zakislamin Games

[–]ElectricTool 1 point2 points ago

There is additional music (mostly combat/atmospheric) not part of the official soundtrack. It's very much possible he did additional work that didn't make it to the soundtrack but is in the game somewhere. That combined with the fact that Mansell was probably an expensive hire would explain why the soundtrack only credits 2 songs to him.

To be honest though, Sam Hulick is the real Mass Effect soundtrack hero. He's been on board since ME1 and was responsible for the ME theme, the galaxy map theme (Uncharted Worlds), and the victory theme from ME1.
