TROPHY CASE

Teacher refuses inhailer to asthmatic student. Mommies unite against bad teachers like this! (I am not affiliated with link) by TheCrimeBitchin Parenting

Teachers had nothing to do with this. Blame the nurse, or even the admin, but not the teachers.

Great idea. Those fruit/vegetable references were always amusing and I love the way you used them.

TIME magazine is diving headfirst into the "mom wars". But, how old IS too old for breast feeding? by DrNoein Mommit

[–]DrKittens 4 points5 points ago

Ok, I don't really care either way (about upvoting/downvoting), but trying to think about this as a researcher...aren't there "better" ways of doing things? For example, isn't it "better" to try to eat a balanced diet while pregnant than to eat McD's everyday? Isn't it "better" to feed toddlers whole foods most of the time, rather than processed foods most of the time? I guess what I am trying to say that in our modern world, we do know some things about some things. :) That doesn't mean that there is one right way to do things, but the idea that everyone is doing things the "best" way is a little tricky. Do you know what I mean? (I'm not sure if I have articulated this clearly.)

babies first day at daycare by AK2K12in Mommit

[–]DrKittens 0 points1 point ago

I was really upset about having my kid in daycare, but I realized all of the benefits: baby being held by other adults than me and my partner, baby being around other babies, baby playing with a lot of new toys, etc. We have been going to the same daycare for about 3 months now and almost every day our baby protests when we leave, but never more than (literally) 5 seconds! And those hugs I get when I go pick the baby up are priceless!

For about 6 years of my life, people called me 'Mushroom' because of a simple misunderstanding. Do you have any weird nicknames that you love/hate? by FuckingSuperin AskReddit

I was called Poopspots by a classmate (I have brown eyes). When it started, probably in about 4th grade, I hated it. It grew to be endearing.

I looked out my office window on campus and couldn't see the mountains to the north. It was a little scary, especially since I biked to work today!

I have a year left in college, no job, and $2000 to my name. I have no idea what to do. by akaLokiiin Frugal

I know all fields are different, but in my field (education) most people have their graduate school "paid for" by their department/college. I had no idea about this and I paid my own way for my master's degree while I was still a full-time teacher. But then when I went looking for doctoral programs, I was pleasantly surprised that if I was offered some sort of assistantship/fellowship, they would pay tuition and some kind of stipend. The first year was a little rough (going from a good teacher's salary to a grad student salary) and I did take out a small loan. However each year after that, I was able to supplement my income with various projects and didn't take out any more loans.

So, if you are interested in school, you should ask your professor about the benefits of going straight to graduate school, funding possibilities, etc.

EDIT: Most people have their doctoral degrees paid for, but some places do support master's students. Since an MFA is a typical terminal degree in the arts, there might be funding opportunities for you.

EDIT 2: I had both fellowships and assistantships. My fellowship just paid me to go to school, in part because of my research interests, which means I didn't have to do any work for it. My assistantships ranged from teaching classes to supervising students in the field to working on professors' research projects. Good luck!

Thanks. It looks like it usually comes with a 8-55mm lens. Can you very briefly explain what the different lens are for? Thanks! EDIT: Nevermind...I read a little about it and I think I get it. Thanks for your earlier help.

I put the mattress on the floor. We live in the desert so it is pretty dusty in the house, but I haven't found it any dustier in/on the bed.

I need recommendations for my first DSLR. I have an old point and shoot, and I think I take solid photos in terms of composition, but obviously the image quality is lacking. I am looking for something that is quick (I have an 8 month old) and that can handle a range of light settings. (I love taking photos in early morning and late at night in my baby's bedroom, but they are grainy.) I'd like to spend around $500 or less. I have looked at the sites recommended here, but for a noob, it's like reading a foreign language. Thanks!

Tips for co-sleeping: worried about pillow by l33tbotin Mommit

Have you tried turning the pillow perpendicular to how it usually is? That's how I position my pillow so that it is under my head, but not on either side of me.

Yesterday, I scolded a stranger in a Subway. Have you ever had to publicly scold someone you didn't know? by grummlindsin AskReddit

[–]DrKittens 0 points1 point ago

I scold kids all the time at stores when they make a mess. "You just dropped that toy, pick it up and put it back where it belongs" or "You know that doesn't go there"...it helps that I am a former teacher because my teacher face/frown gets an immediate response!

I don't think I look like you much, but during several periods of my life, people said I looked like you. I took it as a great compliment. I think you are about 10 years older than me...the perfect age to make me always want you as an older sister. I don't have any questions, but thanks for doing this! xoxo

I know, I know, it's just that we love bath time and it is such a nice end to the day, especially when Baby has been fussy. I guess I thought since I wasn't using soap most days, it was fine, but I think I might try cutting back.
