Then the "s" makes no sense.

EDIT: The other example he gives of an alternative is "the GPA increase." In other words, the "s" isn't making the GPA plural.

Either way, he does a pretty bad job of explaining the example.

EDIT 2: I mean, hell, the guy capitalizes linguistics...

The original question was the same construction as my example. He left out the apostrophe but I believe he meant "the GPA's increase."

There's would be nothing wrong with saying "The University's campus was a sprawling one."

It isn't incorrect to say the "GPA's increase." Other ways of saying it might sound better to a native speaker. But I don't think there's any rule being violated. That's why you probably can't think of one.
