I every now and then hire NYU kids off craigslist to come clean my kitchen/bathroom. I just put up a post and say low bid wins. As it stands, they're both messes of epic proportions. If you can find them, and it fits in your lifestyle, I highly recommend getting the Bean series audiobooks. I listened to them when I was doing a lot of driving for work (going from one office to another back and forth) and they were great.

Yeesh, call me a privileged asshole...but 10K really isn't a lot of money. Don't get me wrong, it's nice to have, but if nothing else the fact this guy comes from a family that could afford to give him 10K for what amounts to a relatively minor bet would indicate to me that (s)he's in a position to do pretty well for their life if only because they've go a pretty good jump on things.

I mean, granted, I didn't go to college (I enlisted when I was 17), so I couldn't really say how integral it is into one's senior year...but unless you're quite sure that you don't really plan to drink anyway, or you're relatively antisocial and you don't think it's going to matter anyway, you can always get 10K later but you're never going to get that year of your life back. What's worse, you'd have to spend the rest of your life thinking about every missed opportunity and wondering what if. As someone who makes decent enough money, but missed most of the normal 18-22 year old period of growing up, I can assure you that experiences are worth a lot more than money if only because there's a lot of money out there, but not a whole lot of time.

I came home from the military at 22 and lived with my parents for a while while I decided what to do with my life. Got a job at a cable company and was going to college intermittently at best. Finally, my parents said I could either pay them rent for living there, or I could go to college and live there rent free.

So, I moved out and never finished college. Frankly, I think it was the best move I could have made.

I live in Manhattan (NYC, not Kansas). I'm one of the rare freaks that actually owns a car. I've yet to see a movie where someone gets to where they want to be, then drive around the block for 45 minutes looking for a spot, only to find one and realize that it's only going to be a legal parking spot for 20 minutes, then it's a tow-away zone.

So yeah, TL;DR I wish finding parking in Manhattan was as easy as it is in the movies.

(Presumably lighter) brown guy here. I got my first real sunburn a month or two back in Vegas (at 29). I had no idea. I don't know how white people put up with this all the time. It's like your skin just hurts and then falls off.

That aside, no, don't PM me, OP. Your plan sounds idiotic, and my guess is that your 3 friends bailed when they realized this. "I'll move to NYC, find a job in a few days, get my own place then try to make it big as an improv comedian." You sound like the plot to a teen sitcom. If this was seriously your dream you wouldn't be making ludicrous, life changing plans to pursue it. Any one can live in NYC, but at least pretend to do it like a grown up. Save up, sublet a place, have your contacts made in advance and a plan of attack. Not "Hey, can be the guy on your couch for a while?"

I'm sure this is where someone says "no need to be a dick about it" but YES, there is a need to be a dick about it. If someone told you they were going to go punch a pitbull in the face, you wouldn't be a dick to tell that's fucking idiotic, and moving to NYC with no plan aside from the kindness of strangers is more than a little idiotic.

Slowly, but surely people are starting to realize that heeping criticism en masse on a subculture whose only crime is liking things you don't like only makes you seem like an asshole. "Look at that guys pants! I bet his world view is significantly different than mine, and further I hate him and anyone that looks like him." isn't exactly a statement that makes people want to be your friend.

I don't want to tell you how to do your job, Rob, but not once but twice I've been ticketed by two separate cops for two separate things ~20 minutes apart. Meaning not only did they see that I already had a ticket, but they opened it up to make sure they weren't ticketing me for the same thing the last person had.
