TROPHY CASE

This is for Star Wars 3D by loki010in pics

[–]DefaultPlayer 0 points1 point ago

I read a 60 second interview with George Lucas in the paper this morning. He was asked what he thought of 3D and his repsonse consisted of 4 main points (in order):

  • He didn't like it. I believe the word he used to describe it was "gimmick"

  • James Cameron and someone else wanted him to promote 3D in more movies

  • He promoted it with them

  • He then found out that he liked it.

I don't know about you, but I really don't like the fact that he decided to back something he thought was cheapening cinema.

I have an unlocked European Galaxy Nexus running 4.0.2, and I still can't get it. I think it's only for American ICS devices.

5 reasons Final Fantasy XIII worked by nuktlin FinalFantasy

I thought that using the auto-battle would come at a great cost but my friend showed me that he got above average in most of his battles just from him hitting auto-battle and switching paradigms, and most of the time the AI was pretty good.

So I don't really think the Sonic comparison applies, especially when you said:

if you really just wanted to purposefully suck at the game and not play it like it's supposed to if you wanted

because the auto-battle was on by default (i.e: chosen by squeenix) and a crazy amount of developer effort went into making it "good". (I use the word good loosely as I hate it but it did what it was intended to do well).

21 places in 5 mins. That's better than I had hoped to get in 30 mins. This is really good. I just wonder how long I can retain it.

Spam the “auto” combat button in FFXIII and you’ll surely die as your digital opponents display their mercurial sides, zigging when your latest move’s premised on zagging.

My friend proved that spamming auto-complete can make you beat the game quite fast and easily.

Except it’s not an intro. Not really. Great games teach you how to play without telling you. FFXIII takes longer than most, and that’s by design — there’s a lot to teach

There is not 25 hours worth of teaching material. Most people could master it within 4 hours. 25 is ridiculous.

Not the schmaltzy, tin-eared character dialogue that made me cringe

I wouldn't describe any of the character dialogue as "tin-eared". I would, however, complain that the dialogue needed to be louder and the music quieter. I wouldn't have known what the characters were saying half the time during key story-parts if I didn't leave subtitles on. I even tried it on different TVs and sound systems, as well as hearing the same complaints from many friends. I hope this is fixed in XIII-2. it was really frustrating.

The visual design

I would disagree with this but only because I saw how much effort was put into the design of the cities and world with little-to-no freedom to move around 90% of it. The design was great, the implementation was not so great.

The “we’re not hiding anything this time” angle.

I don't know about anyone else, but I like it when they hide little things in games, especially final fantasy games. The FF devs tend to hide things that you can do without and that only people who would put the effort into getting them would appreciate getting them. So it works out for everyone. The lack of optional things in the game just made it feel more linear, which itself is an achievement.

Yeah, I know but my point is that you should browse the site more to see people use it and solve your problem.

It seems like you don't browse the site much. I'm sure that if you browsed a little more often you would see that a lot of people use it.

Italian nursing home employees abusing the patients! Some of the most disgraceful acts I have ever seen. I couldn't watch the whole video. by Ziltoid81in videos

[–]DefaultPlayer 1 point2 points ago

I know they were arrested after all this footage was taken, what I'm wondering about is how they got so much footage (let it go on for so long) without arresting them. I would have been in there as soon as I saw the first person being abused. There's 10 mins of footage here, and that's just what was released.

it's all against the developer contract

It's against the developer contract to do this on the iTunes store, but the paid reviews I'm talking about (and presuming these people were talking about) would be blogs or websites that talk about news apps, etc.

[–]DefaultPlayer 1 point2 points ago

I came here to post almost exectly this, so instead I'll just second it and add that I have seen people pay a lot more for reviews; not biased ones just fair ones as the outcome is either a list of improvements or good advertising or both.

If you like that sort of stuff (the realistic artwork, not the boobs) check out Alex Ross' work. I bought Kingdom Come) and I am still amazed at the artwork every time I open it.

If you like the other sort of stuff (the boobs, not the realistic artwork) check out porn.

Happily, no one denies that this guy did what he is alleged to have done, so we can take that off the table.

You obviously haven't been reading anything about this case or even paying attention to the comments in this thread. He didn't even commit the crime he is being accused of. It was one of my first main points:

On top of everything I have said, he didn't even break the law. He had a link hosting website.

The American "justice system" is so fucked that they assessed this guy as breaking the law (when he didn't) and then went to the UK with that assessment. This is another reason why it is a very bad thing.

I also believe that iOS appeals to the masses, however there are a few things I feel the need to pick at in this article.

The fact of the matter is most people don’t want to and don’t have time to tinker with their user experience to the level Android allows.

This is true. Most people don't want to tinker to the level that Android allows, but most people don't need to tinker to the level that Android allows. If you were trying to make the point that most people don't want to tinker with Android to the level that is necessary, I would disagree as I think most people like a little bit of customisation (which is all it needs). If that isn't what you meant, then you don't really have a point there.

ICS’s Face unlock is a gimick, and a stupid one. While Google was developing face unlock Apple was busy making location-based reminders work beautifully and making Siri accurate and extremely powerful.

As a Galaxy Nexus owner, I completely agree that the face unlock feature is a gimmick, however in the two sentence comparison you talk about it as if that's all that was in ICS. It wasn't. At all. There are so many other features that are amazing, and you even state one of them later on ("the option to set data limits").

Price isn’t even much of a factor at this point with with iPhone 4’s available on any carrier for only $100.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Siri only available on the iPhone 4s? You put a lot of importance on it in the last quote.

I think the battery life is completely intolerable, topping out at ~17 hours (being very generous) because of that screen.

I get over a day unless I watch a lot of Netflix and/or play loads of games. You were doing something drastically wrong.

What do you guys think I should do?

I'd say stick with iOS. There's a clear bias from the way you wrote your article, which means you like it, and people should buy what they like.

Edit: Just remembering about the iPhone 4s battery life. Isn't it just short of one full day? That sounds to me like the average android phone. I had an iPhone 4 for a while and the batter life was amazing. I barely used it but it would last about a week. I was really surprised to hear it about the 4s, but it really should have been mentioned in this article.

[–]DefaultPlayer 0 points1 point ago

First off:

"It's arrogant"

I'm not sure but I think you meant ignorant. If you didn't can you explain how I am in any way being arrogant?

You seem to think that governments always have the best interest of people at heart. Well the truth is that governments are made of people, and many people have been found to be selfish, uneducated, assholes. I want laws in place that would not allow selfish, uneducated, assholes to do what they want. You want laws that would allow them.

There's a few quotes that may help you understand where I stand:

People willing to trade their freedom for temporary security deserve neither and will lose both.

It is better and more satisfactory to acquit a thousand guilty persons than to put a single innocent one to death.

Also think about this. It is literally impossible to comply with every law in the world. There are so many that are contradictory.

In the example I gave, all it takes is 1 homophobic judge and that imaginary person could be sentenced to death in another country he has nothing to do with. The laws of a decent country shouldn't even allow such ridiculousness to get to court. You, however, would not only want it to get to court, but lay his future in the hands of whatever judge was there that day.

BBC News - 'Piracy' student Richard O'Dwyer condemns treaty by Fleshflayerin worldnews

[–]DefaultPlayer 20 points21 points ago*

This is not a good thing. If you do not do the things that are illegal in the country you are in, you should be safe. If you can do it for this law then you can do it for other laws.

Lets take the fact that simply being gay in some other countries is illegal and people can be sentenced to death for it. Now lets consider that one person in the UK talks about being gay on their own website. The government in another country might see that a person is being gay and consider him to have broken their stupid laws. Your way of thinking would have him sent over there to face the penalties in the other country.

How is that in any way fair?

The US do not rule the world and yet people & their governments let them away with shit like this. If he breaks American law in America, then he should face the penalty. If he did not break American law in America, then they can go fuck themselves and the guy's government (who's laws he didn't break) shouldn't be handing him over.

On top of everything I have said, he didn't even break the law. He had a link hosting website.

Everything about this is BS.
