Everything you need to know about Tebow's "rookie" year and why he is even allowed on a team by PlatinumToasterRapein nyjets

Just barely, after they lost, I believe, their last three games. Correct me if I'm wrong on the number but they backed into the playoffs.

Wine recommendation - Cabernet Franc by Isthatritein wine

It is a relatively early ripening grape. I'm sure most of the Finger Lakes wineries do grow their own, bur I know for a fact there are some that do not. Long Island does have a slightly longer growing season than the FL, so reds in general are able to ripen more consistently than they do upstate.

I'll be the first to admit, I'm not nearly as familiar with the Finger Lakes as I am with Long Island, but I do recall reading a few times that LI is loosely considered to be the states "red region". I'm sure there are a lot of great Cab Francs, and other reds being made in the FL, but my comment was prompted by my opinion that if OP is going to buy a NY Cab Franc blind, he'd be better off going LI as they are more consistent on the reds.

Wish I could edit posts on the mobile app....

Not knocking the Finger Lakes, and I'm sure not everyone does it, but some of the upstate producers actually buy some of their red grapes from Long Island growers, not unlike how some LI wineries buy their Riesling from Finger Lakes growers. It's easier to ripen the grapes fully on Long Island.

Long Island is making some very good Cab Franc, but availability will very likely be an issue.

OP, what state are you in?

There are many many distillers using copper pots these days. I think the parent post was talking more along the lines of in the eighties, when Hirsch burned down.

Considering the same cable will last you forever, yeah, they're pretty reasonable. I've had the same Monster cable for nine years now, and if it ever breaks I can get a free replacement.

What wine sectors are 'dead' in your opinion? by Goatpunchingin wine

[–]Dawbs89 0 points1 point ago

You're definitely right about not being able to improve the price issue. Land's not getting any cheaper. Long Island will never be able to compete on price. The direction the best wineries seem to be taking is focusing on getting the quality to where it can justify the price, and I think some of those better ones are beginning to reach that point.

You're right though, for the most part right now the Finger Lakes are a more consistent all around option and a better for the buck

I've found that Pyrat is a good starter rum for someone to mutiny the Captain. It's a bit too sweet for most experienced palates.

Out of curiosity, can you recall any LI wines you've tried? Vintages really matter here. 2007 and 2010 are stellar.

[–]Dawbs89 0 points1 point ago

I'm biased, as I am a Long Islander, but most of our best wines don't make it past New York City, and a lot don't even get that far. Finger Lakes is obviously a bit more established than LI right now, but LI is in a really good spot right now. A lot of wineries are hitting there stride and finding out what works for them. One if the biggest things that will work against us is our capacity. Most wineries do not have a large production, but this also works for us because the wineries are forced to focus on quality over quantity. But most LI wineries can sell out their stuff just through tasting room sales and some local businesses.

Not knocking Finger Lakes at all, I live their wine. But LI is getting to the point that it's just as good, and actually better when it comes to reds.

WA Governor on Cali wine vs Washington "They make jug wine. We make fine wine." by Ashlynkatin wine

[–]Dawbs89 5 points6 points ago

While specific regions in California obviously make fine wine, the vast majority of grapes grown there are for mass produced "jug wine". It's a boneheaded statement as it discounts the great wineries of California, but the fact remains that the state is responsible for the vast majority of the country's low quality mass produced plonk.

On the dry Riesling: I'm finding a lot of really good, truly dry American Rieslings in NY, coming out of the Finger Lakes and Long Island.

Breaking: Sanchez wants out, Vikings interested? by TPFBlogin nyjets

[–]Dawbs89 2 points3 points ago

Trading Sanchez to start Tebow may be enough to make me stay home this season. This is a totally baseless rumor for now, and God I hope it stays that way. I think this would be a decision to haunt the jets for a decade... which means it wouldn't surprise if they did it. Shooting themselves in the foot has been there MO

There's been talk for years about making his lab in Shoreham, NY a museum, but the town that it's in drags its feet on everything, and it'll probably never happen. The original building is still intact, but in the late 20th century (70s, 80s?) a camera or film company bought the property and added a couple buildings.
