Yup, even though that's due more to the technical limitations of Java and is hardly the "three earths" claim that Notch first made, this is still massively larger than 2048x2048 and is an area span that's near impossible to explore fully in one permanent save file played over several years.

2048x2048 on the other hand? You can literally walk that distance within minutes ingame. It's roughly the size of the ingame map you're given upon first spawning in the game.
