These are the two bottles in my (very limited) collection that I am the most proud of. What bottle are you saving for a special occasion? by nick1clickin wine

[–]ChampagneFloozy 1 point2 points ago

A 2007 JJ Prum Bernkastler Badstube Spatlese. Not terribly expensive to start with (about 35 - 40$ if I remember correctly) but very long lived. I plan on opening it somewhere in the neighborhood of 2025.

Welcome.

This gives me an idea that maybe there should be a different flair for people who work in the winery/vineyard end of things other than "wine pro" because it really is a different specialization. What do y'all think?

If this subreddit is playboy that image is Hustler - kind of gross and a little too far.

I work at a wine shop with an extensive specialty food selection. This is how I spent a good part of my day Friday. Personally, we prefer the san Daniele to Parma, and most foodies I know agree.

Good champagne. Why share? by Megadoomin wine

I am not 100% positive but from what I understand about things like the Belle Epoque, they need at least a few years from when you buy them. (That's why I asked if anyone else thought it seemed young.) The 2002 is what is on our shelves right now. That is why I said I would wait at least 5 years from now. As far as cheaper bottles go, depends on the producer. I've had some wines from the boss's cellar that were 25$ when bought them 8 years ago (so, 35$ now) that were super recently.

I keep my stash in the cellar at work.

No, I agree. I still see Renee around sometimes and want to punch her. I still think the traveling trust funders (gutter tourists) that the folks at Vincent's had to kick out didn't help.

I know who you are btw Mntfrd_Graverobber. ;) We were friends in those days, when the kids still hung out.

I so very wish I could meet all of you in real life. Do you feel the same and what bottles would you bring to share with everyone if we ever do. by WanderingWinoin wine

Since every seems to be bringing California heavyweights, I'll take care of Germany and Austria. :P

And with Champagne in particular, whilst I can't help myself, I do get a distinct sense of 'Emperor's New Clothes', especially when drinking from a bottle as pretty as the P-J Belle Epoque.

See my previous comment about bottle age. I said the same thing about Dom, or more specifically, called it "overrated" to someone (my boss) who knows alot more than me. He told me that the top cuvees from the best houses need a long time. I have since discovered this to be true from experience.

I agree with you for the most part. Usually when I open something really nice it's just with one other person.

That being said, does anyone else here feel that this particular wine is still a bit too young to really be opened right now regardless? Personally, I would wait a minimum of another 5 years or so.

and the traveling trust funders. what we call the "gutter tourists". Gave Lex an unfair rap.

PS. I'm still mad about Vincents.

Are there any good late night cafes or diners around here? by prince_of_tacomain asheville

[–]ChampagneFloozy 0 points1 point ago

This town is sorely lacking in the 24 diner department. That's the only thing bigger cities have on us. What we need is for the Med downtown or 5 Points to be 24 hours. A greasy spoon, owned by greeks, open 24/7. You can get just coffee and sit and smoke for hours. A Tom Waits kinda dive. It's the only thing I miss about NYC and Richmond, VA.

The Bordealaise have only themselves to blame as to the critique by some of the homogenization of their wines.
