Language is the MAIN difference but not the only one. Actually we have nothing in common with the rest of the country: we're more socialist (first to introduce cheap day-care centres for families, highest unionization rate in the country), more European-like, most of us are Catholic as the rest of the country is mostly Protestant, we don't celebrate the same holidays (I've never celebrated Thanksgiving), don't have the same traditions, same social attitudes (we kiss on cheeks, are usually warmer), don't party nor drink the same (English Canadians drink to get drunk, we drink to socialize and with moderation), don't have same views, basically not the same mentality. We don't even dress the same: American Eagle, A & F and Hollister are practically non-existant in Quebec, except in Montreal. Most Quebecers tend care more about culture, leisure, etc., whereas English Canadians are more business-oriented, more preocuppied by the economy. Best way for you to notice those differences is to go to an English-speaking university in Canada (or even Quebec) and then go to a French-speaking university, it will strike you right away.

Differences between Republicans and Democrats in the United States are mainly political, that is ideological. But at the end of the day, you guys are all American. The only states that could separate would be Vermont and Maine, those states are pretty much Canadian at heart.
