Here are a few tips on how to significantly improve the quality of the r/TodayILearned and make it less circlejerky. by Caribanin circlebroke

It's so obvious when someone is only making a post to further their own agenda about a topic, yet nothing is ever done about it.

If you message the mods about it, you'll usually have a quick response and also most likely the post will be removed if you can prove how it's misleading. This is often easy to do because a lot of the political posts rely on being misleading.

Especially when people use [1] /r/TIL because it is posted under the guise of being factual.

If you can prove that the title doesn't line up with the information presented (nonfactual) you can easily have it removed.

Even though it isn't against the rules depending on which subreddit it's in, it has resulted in a lot of biased posts like the one you are referring to.

You can nub these types of posts before they get popular if you visit the new tab in /r/todayilearned and following the advice I gave you. :)

TIL that Reading Rainbow is being relaunched! by HouseOfScribesin todayilearned

It's slightly older than 2 months so it's technically not recent news according to the rules so it wouldn't be right if I were to remove it even if it is a crappy post.

Oh! I though you meant to comment on the cb post that was just talking about logical fallacies and posted in here by mistake!

Nope. There is often a lot of overlap between /r/politics, /r/atheism, and /r/todayilearned subscribers because they're all default subs. The people who are exclusively for /r/todayilearned for interesting facts and not agenda pushing (or stroking and jerking) are therefore outnumbered.

It is said that local sightings of this creature could just be a sun bear. Never knew there was even such a bear in the first place.

How many of you actually like your country's flag? by dudefrommongoliain vexillology

[–]Cariban 1 point2 points ago

I really like my country's flag (USA). I can understand why people don't like it because of the amount of stripes and stars but I like the design. I find it communicates that America is a large country. Not only that but the canton makes it easy to make a limitless amount of variations of the flag which is always fun!

What do we really know about Jesus Christ? by strangeghostin AskHistorians

[–]Cariban 11 points12 points ago

I could also talk about why the common argument against the historical Jesus, that there is no source discussing him contemporary to his life, is absurd and completely misunderstands the nature of classical historiography.

Oh please do! This is the pinnacle argument that /r/atheism uses on why Jesus (as a person) never existed.
