did you just link the ant eater pic AND quote the big lebowski? i don't know how i could even begin to respond haha.

but no, i get your definition. this is a problem all artists everywhere have, i think, because the nature of art is to break the rules we have in place. and when you try to define something that by definition breaks definitions, your definition isn't going to hold up for very long. so we opt for these very very loose definitions like the one you posted, and while it doesn't tell us anything about what art really is, it does kind of serve as a placeholder for us.

just my thoughts... also, SHUT UP DONNIE, YOU'RE OUT OF YOUR ELEMENT.

I can deal with that definition. I don't like it very much, but at least it didn't end with "Deal with it son."

Well... You're wrong, but I don't sense a constructive conversation happening here with you, so thanks for your feedback.

Right, but half of the page is taken up by cardboard posts right now (including a windex bottle, a bat, a literal cardboard box with a Reddit alien on it and Boxy Brown, the character from ATHF).

This stuff isn't fine art in my opinion (would be all ears to hear someone defend these as fine art), and I think it detracts from the community.

Just getting into printmaking/etching... It's so difficult and unpredictable, I love it. by carocarooin Art

[–]Caligineus 0 points1 point ago

Very cool - is it an acid etch? I absolutely love acid etches - you can get some really great, deep patches of black that are tough for other forms of printmaking.

I think the figure itself is nice, but I think you could take a little more advantage of the tonal spectrum you can get from etches.

Enjoy printmaking while you have the facilities!

Painting by Charlotte Caron - people as animals - amazing by samkadin Art

[–]Caligineus 0 points1 point ago

Disagree - you have to take the art for what it is. Speculating that an artist made a decision because they could/couldn't do something with the paint isn't a constructive way to critique in my opinion.

It feels like a cartoon - too funny how the style translates to modern day.

Cool, I'm satisfied with that distinction - art vs. fine art. Keep art-ing!

Any definition I give you will be something you can pick apart. If you really want to get into the discussion, why don't you tell me why you think this is art?

In my opinion, there is a real but hard-to-define line between craft projects and fine art.

It looks like a lot of work and thought went into the making of this, which I really appreciate. It's not my style personally, but I can appreciate the aesthetic you're going for. I think the text in some of these leaves a little to be desired - it's very clear, for example, in some of your early comics that you're trying to lay the story out for us where I think it could be embedded a little more organically into character dialogue/monologue.

Anyway, if you're wondering why this didn't get any attention, it's most likely because it's not in an imgur album. r/Art seems to love imgur more than they love the artwork they're looking at, so if you're interested in trying to post this again, maybe toss a few of your favorites into an imgur album and link to the site (either in your Reddit post or on imgur itself).

Thanks for sharing. joe

I've been drawing the Disney Princesses for my Daughter in different mediums and wanted to share. by pattitudein Art

[–]Caligineus 1 point2 points ago

They're nice drawings, man, but I'm not sure if I'd consider these Art (with a capital A). Try posting these in IDAP - think they'd find a better home there.

Thanks for sharing - know these have some sentimental value, and that shines through in the drawings :)
