I think women deal with that feeling all the time. We can be looked down on for not putting effort into our appearances, and we definitely get looked down on if we put too much effort into it. You will never make everyone happy, so, like others emerge said before me, do what makes you happy! :) You seem to have an interest in makeup, so play around with it. Decide what your favorite feature is and play. It. Up. I do a smokey eye almost everyday. This is a very boring thing to do. But, I like it, I like my eyes, it makes me happy.

I wouldn't worry about makeup making you fake in any regard, it's not like you're slathering on copious amount of foundation, whore levels of blush, and globbing on the lipstick lol. Keep it clean, keep it simple, and enhance your already awesome features just a tad. :)
