TROPHY CASE

Misleading title on r/WTF implies that Jay Leno personally went and blocked a youtube video he aired on his show by RevRoundin circlebroke

[–]BritishHobo 2 points3 points ago

Right? It boggled my mind, do they genuinely think Jay Leno heads the legal department at the network his show runs on? Ridiculously idiotic pitchfork-mob.

I just... genuinely can't believe that people openly blamed Jay Leno for this. Mental.

Jay Goddamn Leno "An Open Letter to Jay Leno About Stealing My Video and Then Getting It Removed From YouTube" by Setevinin television

[–]BritishHobo 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, there's a lot of mob anger here (and in the other, front-paged post) and I have to wonder if people genuinely think Jay Leno is in charge of his show's legal department, because that's idiotic, stupid bandwagoning.

Any redditors watch Veep? by CAPTJTKin television

[–]BritishHobo 2 points3 points ago

See, I don't think it makes Veep unfunny (though it did take me an episode or two to get used to it, but now I love the show) I just much prefer the frantic, panicky style of TTOI. It always felt like they were just one fuck-up away from destroying their entire career, while the incidents in Veep just feel like minor embarrassments. I think the TTOI specials (the second especially) are incredible for that, the second half of In The Loop as well.

Smaller Subreddit, but Bigger Circlejerk: "Is Reddit the future of democracy?" by taniquetilin circlebroke

[–]BritishHobo 2 points3 points ago

Heh, yup. All Reddit did was focus in absurd detail on telling people to stop using GoDaddy to host their websites, because GoDaddy supported SOPA. I hate to get all Godwin's Law, but it's like trying to win World War 2 by telling Hermann Göring's mates to stop hanging out with him, and then claiming all the glory when Germany surrenders.

Start with an incredibly smug original post, apply liberal amounts of No True Scotsman, bake at 350, and voila, you have a front page post. by TheBoinkOfProgressin circlebroke

Every time I think the '/r/atheism is a circlejerk!' stuff is getting tired, I see a post like this and I thank god that there's plenty of people like you guys who recognize what self-superior patronizing assholes those guys can be.

God, what a useless post. Literally all it does is say 'nobody turns from atheism to christianity' and it's hugely upvoted! What the fuck?

Well r/atheism, having been an enlightened atheist for 4 years I have recently turned to religion and found a new life there. by RobTryxin atheism

[–]BritishHobo 4 points5 points ago

Oh no, someone dared to speak out when this shitty subreddit continued to mock other people's beliefs to feel superior, I better act like an asshole about it.

If you were put in charge of trimming Earth's human population down to 3 billion or so, what would your criteria be for who stays and who goes? by Clayburnin AskReddit

[–]BritishHobo 2 points3 points ago

My answer is 'people who are actually elitist over content aggregation sites'. Everyone who acts like 9gag is a horrible meme-ridden cesspit of idiots repeating the same jokes over and over, and Reddit is nothing like that at all? Dead.

THE MAIN SUBJECT OF THE PICTURE

Seriously? Just because it's there doesn't make it the main subject. And just because the ad execs are showing off doesn't make it not shitty that the top comment on a picture of her in costume is just a stupid 'hurr hurr woman sex' comment.

Reddit celebrity Trapped_in_Reddit comments "penis," gets over 50 upvotes. by ironboarin circlebroke

[–]BritishHobo 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, it's always a bizarre thing where those that turn on the novelty accounts manage to make themselves more hateable than the novelty accounts themselves, being hugely vitriolic and rude.

Reddit celebrity Trapped_in_Reddit comments "penis," gets over 50 upvotes. by ironboarin circlebroke

[–]BritishHobo 0 points1 point ago

Simply because he posts so much. It's amusing that Reddit constantly hates on 'vapid' celebrities like the Kardashians who are famous without doing anything, and yet Reddit celebrities are simply accounts which post so much that people recognize them and derail interesting comment threads with 'HA HA IS TRAPPED IN REDDIT I KNOW YOU YOU'RE TRAPPED IN REDDIT I'M SO HONOURED'

/r/BDSM becomes aSRS's Vietnam: Ground zero for proxy war with SRS -- Lube and napalm everywhere by HappyFuzzyBunniesin SubredditDrama

[–]BritishHobo 4 points5 points ago

See, I don't think SRS actually ever calls themselves trolls. 'SA trolls!' is just a stupid exaggerated claim that's become fact through people repeating it. They call themselves a circlejerk.

/r/BDSM becomes aSRS's Vietnam: Ground zero for proxy war with SRS -- Lube and napalm everywhere by HappyFuzzyBunniesin SubredditDrama

[–]BritishHobo 4 points5 points ago

Yeah, at this point it's pretty much just an attempt to scour each others' posts to find a few quotes they can use to say 'HEY LOOK HOW RIDICULOUS THESE GUYS ARE'. Although, as a user who welcomed the ban from SRS so I could continue to post in aSRS, I think aSRS are much worse for it. At least SRS have their 'agenda', so to speak, they want to call out what they perceive as sexism and racism. ASRS is just such a specific subreddit that it's all muddled and angry and meh.

I feel somewhat ashamed of myself that I've gotten caught up in the entire culture. All I wanted to do was call out people making openly hateful comments - now there's this whole bizarre rivalry going on, petty shit on all sides (this linked post is basically EDB trying to ridicule SRS' views in an unrelated subreddit, then whining when SRSers turn up), and just... ugh.

[–]BritishHobo 1 point2 points ago

This comment would go better right at the top, where everyone's upvoted that comment solely about her ass. Fuck, are these people completely incapable of treating women like they have any worth beyond being hot?

[–]BritishHobo 26 points27 points ago

What's possibly more depressing, though not really a surprise, is that the top comment on this post is unironically about her ass. Ugh. Reddit.

I would like to discuss what is the acceptable response when we see SRS invading another sub. by sjtech88in antisrs

[–]BritishHobo 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, I feel like people always really exaggerate this. SRS in other threads usually means three or four members actually giving their genuine thoughts on the whole situation (usually, obviously, that the comment they're replying to is hateful), which usually sparks some decent discussion. But stuff like this always makes it sound like it's a war or something, with a hundred SRSers coming in.

Any redditors watch Veep? by CAPTJTKin television

[–]BritishHobo 4 points5 points ago

Indeed. I don't think it's on the same level as The Thick of It, it feels a bit broader and sillier, but by this point the cast has really meshed, and it's pretty sharp. I loved Dan and Jonah's friendship/argument last week, and Selina's whole rant at the end. Also the ongoing storyline is pretty interesting, something TTOI doesn't do much.

Absolutely. I mean, I knew the basic stuff genre-savvy horror movie with a sci-fi twist but it still managed to be surprising and amazing.
