Moving to Manhattan in August. What are the must do's? by Fantasticrissin kansas

[–]Blackstaff 1 point2 points ago

Get some ice cream from Call Hall. Eat at The Chef if it's still operating. Spend at least a couple of really late nights/early mornings eating at Bob's Diner. Try out the Linear Trail Park - see how much wild hemp you can spot. Take advantage of any Landon Lectures on campus. I'm sure I'm forgetting a ton of stuff.

I really, really miss Manhattan.

"The Measure of a Man" just might be my favorite episode and Mr. Data my favorite character. by HankMcCoy7410in startrek

Is this one of the "trial" episodes where Picard calls for and receives a recess right before his big speech? That happens more than once during the series, I believe.

What we lack in rain we make up for with wind. Lots and lots of wind. You'll see.

Once Upon a Time in America (1984) by murtaza1234in classicfilms

This is one of my favorite films, but you must be sure to see the longer versions, not the criminally truncated American version. Amazing cast, great story, and the craftsmanship is top-notch. This is a film that all film lovers MUST see.

If the cat doesn't care about waking me up, I shouldn't care about waking her up. Move over, kitty.

We'll be lucky to be in the top six of the Big 12. WTF Bruce Weber? GIVE ME STEVE HENSON AS COACH.

Did you attend the school you root for? by chb66in CollegeBasketball

As a kid, I could have either cheered for the blue 'n red team with the chicken for a mascot or the purple 'n white team with the kitty cat for a mascot. I chose correctly. And yes, I graduated from KSU.

This looks like a small/modest sized cattle feedlot to me. I believe there's a lagoon at bottom left-center of the operation to collect runoff animal waste. It just really looks like a feedlot to me.

Wow. That is amazing. I am always so very happy to hear hard truth from somebody who knows better. It takes my breath away sometimes. It makes my eyes cry. Great post.

Would LEGALIZING pot create many jobs? by KellieRowlandin PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Blackstaff 0 points1 point ago

It's impossible to predict the future. That being said...

There might be some job losses for law enforcement officers. But I think a lot of American businessmen could quickly supplant most or all of the production that is currently taking place in Mexico. I mean...I don't know what it's like now, but Mexican weed was seedy and/or moldy and/or reeked of ammonia back when I was in college. Americans could take those production jobs and make a much higher quality, hand-made product.

Then, there are the industrial jobs to consider. You can make oil, plastic, rope, birdseed, paint, paper, clothing and a host of other products with hemp fiber or hemp seed.

When in doubt, we should err on the side of freedom. This war on drugs has turned the land of the free into a prison state. It is madness. It. Must. End.

Hopefully, he'll do his three year stint, move along to his greener pastures, and the next AD will make the correct move and hire Steve Henson.

Wow. When I see that, the first thing I think of is "free speech." Oh, wait. No, it's the other thing: authoritarian state.

If Romney Wins, Will The Republicans Once Again Say "Deficits Don't Matter" by hocus_pocusin moderatepolitics

Even though that article you JUST READ had numerous graphs showing that spending under Obama has LEVELED OUT and that taxes as a percent of GDP are near HISTORICAL LOWS, you just keep saying your slogans. Just keep saying "tax and spend, tax and spend," no matter WHAT the reality might be.

Let’s just say it: The Republicans are the problem. by wang-bangerin politics

So, when Granny can't work in the family garden anymore, just let her die in the street? If someone becomes crippled, we should just hope that some charitable person or group might give them a little bit of help?

Screw that. We maintain an Army to protect our nation from threats, but military threats aren't the only kind we can help each other confront. Age and infirmity and just plain bad luck shouldn't be sufficient cause for any American to sink to the indignity of destitution and death in the streets. We're better than that. We can do much better than that. "Every man for himself" is not morality.
