Daft Punk - Something About Us - YouTube by xXMessageOfDarknessXin House

[–]Anthaneezy 1 point2 points ago

No, I meant is this track house? It's more like funk than house. No four on the floor. Just saying it's characteristically not house.

Daft Punk weren't "one of the first house producers". House wasn't even really made popular by them. Homework was distinctively house, but in no way genre-defining.

I've never known that police respond to email.

I would call non-emergency number if a driver honked at you or passed by really close. Unless your life was put in danger, then call 911 immediately.

Someone said ride with a GoPro. I think I'll be doing this. Kind of expensive though. There is also this Veho clip on camera that I'm looking into buying. About $50.

you think he has a gun.

Lying to police is a bad thing.

Reporting the car and his actions are a good thing.

Add motor mounts. My rear mount is going bad and it can feel it shake when I get on the throttle hard.

For those curious, the "Scranton Business Park" is located in Panorama City. The episode New Boss talked about how Charles Miner worked at Saticoy Steel. Saticoy is a reference to the street on which The Office is located.

I downvote stupid comments like this that add completely nothing to the conversation. And can't wait for this Look of Disapproval to stop being a thing.

reddit, a mechanic is trying to charge me $290 to replace a starter. Please tell me this is not real life. by felinebutcherin auto

[–]Anthaneezy 3 points4 points ago

  1. It's one downvote. Grow a pair of balls. It's not like karma means anything anyways.
  2. You're implying the mechanic is being dishonest:

I think your mechanic is trying to screw you

Which is false. All things considered, it's a completely fair price. Also, I didn't downvote either of your whining statements.

I want to set up a security camera to a hard-drive to continuously record, i have a hard drive, but what kind of camera should i get(cheap) and how set up? is it possible? by internetznoobin techsupport

[–]Anthaneezy 1 point2 points ago

There are trade offs between the two. You can't make an assumption that IP > Analogue for everyone.

Oh but I can. Let me explain.

  • Analog requires coax cable. This cable degrades the signal the longer the cable is. With Ethernet cable, you can run it to it's max specification with zero loss of quality.
  • IP-style cameras run on Ethernet networks. You're much more likely to encounter an in-place Ethernet network in which to plug in your IP camera than an in-place coax "network".
  • Analog over coax has a star topology. Meaning every device has it's own dedicated line.
  • With IP cameras, you can set up any modern of-the-shelf networking equipment. You can plug them into any hub/switch and have them run back to your main switch with less lines ran.
  • Coax will run you about $270 for 500 feet. CAT5 will run you about $200.

IP cameras are cheaper, easier to plug into existing networks, and provide higher quality. Some don't require a dedicated DVR. They can be easily viewed over the Internet. There is no saving grace for analog cameras. They are outdated technology. It's essentially the difference between compact discs and 8-track cassettes.

I like your assumed indignation. Let me tell you why you're wrong.

When you press together multiple layer printed circuit boards, the outer layers are covered in copper. Now you have no idea if the holes match up since you can't see through copper. Not unless you have this x-ray machine that runs Windows 95. The need is exactly the same as when this machine was initially released. There is no need to upgrade it. It's not as simple as you think due to the highly specialized nature of purpose built manufacturing machines. Also, there is no network connectivity. Even if it were networked, it's no less secure than any modern OS in a corporate environment. And what makes you think it's slow? It's actually pretty quick.

Other than that, you're completely right.

I've been using a dvr system from costco using bnc and proprietary connectors and I think it's crap.

Ha, yes exaaaactly.

My boss actually bought it and told me to make it work. I used some of the cameras but ended up buying this camera. It's okay but I still can't fully utilize it due to the DVR we have. I believe it's a Q-see DVR.

How are you using your cameras? I'm using mine to monitor a manufacturing plant. They run 24/7. What's your budget? Do you have any constraints with proper placement?

Glad this is at the top so I can reply.

IF your IT guy is competent and he spends more time in front of a computer rather than running around being pissed off, this is a good thing. That means nothing is wrong and he has it all under control. It doesn't mean he's being lazy, it means he's done such a good job that nothing is broken.

Bullet is a general statement on how it looks. It's shaped like a over-sized bullet.

And yes, an IP camera can be in the Bullet shape.

I would get on Amazon and look for IP Cameras and see which have good reviews.

smeegy, not all businesses run exactly the same. I have a collection of machines ranging from Solaris 4 through 8, Windows 95 through 7, OS/2 to Debian. There are no standardized hardware platform because it would be cost-ineffective.

How to go about washing an engine? by RancidPonyMilkin Cartalk

[–]Anthaneezy 3 points4 points ago

Since you've given us absolutely no idea what kind of car you drive, I can only give you general information:

  • If you have a distributor, get a grocery bag and tie it off. You're going to have a bad time if water gets in there.
  • A de-greaser is safer at removing caked grease than a high pressure hose. When I clean my engine I usually use the low-pressure setting at the car wash
  • Don't spray into any air intake.
  • Let your engine properly cool before blasting it with water.

Short answer:

Tilt shift.

Real tilt shift uses lenses to create a really shallow focused field of view giving the impression of zooming up on something small.

This uses two bands of gradient-based defocus to make it appear like lens-based tilt-shift.

0:57 seconds in is a completely horrible example of tilt-shift. The Ferry Building should be completely in focus, while Bay Bridge/Treasure Island should be OOF.
