US Rep Walter Jones (R-NC) introduces bill that would allow churches to engage "in partisan politicking," such as endorsing candidates from the pulpit, "without losing their tax-exempt status"; he likens the current tax provisions as "communism" by mepperin politics

I just love how christian schools in africa won't feed or admit students unless the students profess christianity.

I mean... apart that being against 99% of the stuff that Jesus himself preached, I'm fairly certain that Moses, David, Isiah, and everybody in the bible dating back to Adam would have thought that was a dick move.

That bicycle looks like a giant piece of junk.

would not steal

But in all honesty... since you've already told EVERYBODY about that bicycle... don't you think it would be more productive to use a bicycle that is more commonly stolen rather than looking to make your custom bike the most stolen bike ever?

Yes, but I volunteer my time to feed the homeless and I'm making such comments in a purely secular fashion, and my claims are scientifically verifiable.

The problem is that most of those unifying philosophies revolve around being small minded and bigoted. If only there was a way to force these organizations to donate their time to bettering their community without them proselytizing about how they hate the arabs, jews, blacks, mexicans, poor people, round people, fast people, slow people, people people, socially awkward people, people without noses and people with noses, authors, musicmakers, booty shakers and survey takers.

454 magnum revolver with 30mm grenade launcher by aquilesbaezain pics

[–]Andromansis 1 point2 points ago

For reference... they use 300 J paddles to start and stop a human heart, and people used to kill bears with bows that had 60-80 lb pull. That means a little over 400 ft/s.

The 454 is a huge bullet when compared to the 10mm (21.7 grams vs 8.7 grams), but you'll notice the 10mm achieves the same muzzle velocity as the .454 (1600 feet per second).

Never played guild wars 1, and I figure this is the perfect time to bring it up for guild wars 2 before their cash shop is finalized. Call me crazy but... I'd definitely like to see them outclass their competition in every way possible.

I say it is a fundamental feature of an RPG, that doesn't mean I like it. They're using an oracle database, that means each player could have something like 1000 rows of inventory space and it wouldn't actually slow their database down any.

I do not understand why saying that Arenanet should not demean themselves by having inventory space in their cash shop is such an unpopular opinion. Especially when there is a multitude of other stuff that would actually be fun that they could put in their cash shop.

While you raise a valid point, you could still just buy that with regular old gold. What I'm saying is that while the gem market will help curb the RMT aspect of it... it is still going to take a lot of gold for stuff like that.

I will concede that it depends on what server you showed up on in WoW, but I do remember giving away something like 1200 netherweave bags during WotLK (3.0 - 3.3.5), just hanging around elwynn forest or on azuremyst isle. and from there... 4 stacks of copper would have you half way there, or you could go run stocks for wool and get... 400 gp per run.

There is a difference between an "Item Shop" and a "Cash Shop", and your hyperbolic bakery isn't even apt. I've never seen a bakery go around making claims like "Its so good that we can't even call it bread any more".

Arenanet has gone around making claims about how they were trying to make "The highest-quality least-greedy MMO out there". Then they sell fundamental stuff like inventory and bank spaces in the cash shop. There is not a single thing in lockstep with a "High quality, less greedy" mmo selling inventory space.

And all of your guys are saying "But you can just buy them for gems, which are ALMOST THE SAME THING AS GOLD GUISE!!!!" when they aren't the same thing as gold at all, and by your own admission, since you think they are almost the same thing as gold... Why not just have them available for gold? Or have it available for Gold OR Gems. How about that?

You raise a good point with your second paragraph.

Your first paragraph though, oh. I don't have a problem with a lot of smaller titles experimenting with their cash shops. I do feel it is a bit dishonest for Arenanet to be talking smack about everybody else's cash shop when they have removed a fundamental feature of their own game simply to monetize off of it.

I feel you, AND EVERYBODY ELSE HERE THAT HAS BROUGH IT UP, have a fundamental misunderstanding of exactly how the gem exchange is going to pan out.

Gems are a finite resource that cost real currency to buy, and players can then spend them as gems OR trade them for gold.

Gold is an INFINITE resource whose only scarcity lays in how efficient you as a player are at making it. Therefore... Gems will cost a lot more gold once the game actually launches. This is probably have something to do with the fact that nobody was given 2000 free gems to dink around with the cash shop and gem trading. I'm fairly certain that has something do with all these people saying "Hey look, you can just buy that stuff for gold".

I'm telling you right now that the market is going to normalize in under two months with each gem costing 1 or more gold.

Well, no, you really can't. Because if you do delete that character that you purchased the extra inventory space for... it does not go back to your cash shop delivery box. You get to keep your extra character slots forever.

If it was an account wide option and it cost less than $4 eachfor permanent account wide unlocks, this entire discussion would have a different texture entirely. (I mean... really, you have people dropping $150 on the collector's edition and you want them to pay extra money for inventory space?)

[–]Andromansis[S] -1 points0 points ago

Ok, so I would refer you to the dilithium exchange on Star Trek Online.

Also, if it is such a simple thing... how come it costs $7.50 for extra bank slots on Guild Wars 2? How do you equate ANY amount of gold on WoW to $7.50? Further more, I can have all of those bank slots unlocked in an evening on WoW, for free.

Considering the bank slots on GW2 cost $7.50 each lot, and you have to purchase multiple lots to unlock all of them, how do you equate one evening on WoW to at the very least... $30 for just the bank slots on Guild Wars 2?

As I said above, multiple times. Inventory space is the lowest hanging fruit available to people building a cash shop. It is a fundamental feature in most RPGs. Bank space a little bit less so, but the point still stands.

I just find it offensive for Arena Net to be going around touting the quality of their cash shop and yet still be selling creatively bankrupt things like inventory space. It reeks of disingenuousness regardless of it I have any plans to purchase the game or spend any money in their cash shop (which, respectively, I do and I am unsure of at this time).

[–]Andromansis[S] -3 points-2 points ago

Its not about "Breaking the game" its just, like I said... they could have taken the time and actually come up with some idea of SOMETHING to sell people that wasn't so cut and dry as inventory space.

It is, as I said, the lowest of the low hanging fruits. I understand that the "Low hanging fruit" is great for revenue streams, but they have the mystic chests for that.
